Is there a better way to enjoy nature than by getting totally covered in it? Not if you love mudding!

Riding into deep mud and watching it fly every which way while you fight for every inch is wild, messy fun.

But you can make it even more fun with a few key upgrades. So today we’re looking at the 6 best ATV mud bogging accessories that will help you go deeper, ride harder, and get even messier in the mud.

1. Upgrade to ATV Mud Tires

The first thing you need to do is slap a solid set of mud tires on your quad. Your stock tires just won’t cut it.

That’s because stock tires are basic all-terrain tires. They’re jacks of all trades and masters of none. For highly specialized terrain like mud, you need highly specialized tires.

The best ATV mud tires have aggressive treads to grab whatever loose slop there is to push off of. It’s also important for them to have good cleanout features so all the mud flies off as soon you’re back on solid ground.

Our ATV mud tires are some of the best in the business. Our Assassinator, Terminator, and Intimidator Tires each have their own set of features and benefits so mudders get what they need.

Assassinator Tires

Assassinator tires are our most aggressive mud tires with 3” deep lugs. They’re no compromise grips with their sights set on chewing through any mud hole no matter how deep. If you take on the most extreme mud holes and always want to come out on top, Assassinators are the way to go.

Terminator Tires

Our Terminator Tires are aggressive mud tires with a little more emphasis on comfort. They have a strong centerline lug so that it feels smooth on hard ground while still being mud capable with a 2” tread depth. And they look really slick too.

Intimidator Tires

Our Intimidator Tires are mud-focused all-terrain tires. They feature a tighter lug pattern than our other mud tires, which makes them great for rocks, gravel, and dirt. But they still make for awesome mud tires on your ATV thanks to excellent cleanout and aggressive 2” lugs.

Intimidator mud tires
  • 2” tread depth
  • Self-Cleaning trad
  • Tight lug patter (for a mud tire)

2. Get an ATV Lift Kit

A lift kit is the perfect ATV mud bogging accessories. The most obvious benefit is room for bigger tires, which results in better traction in mud.

The second obvious benefit is more ground clearance. One of the biggest challenges of getting through a killer mud hole is pushing your four-wheeler through all that thick slop. A few inches of lift means you have to push through less mud and have a better chance of making it through.

If you’re serious about mud, you need to get an ATV lift kit ASAP.

3. Or Get an ATV Portal Lift

A portal lift is the ultimate ATV mud bogging accessory. Our GDP Portals combine a 4” or 6” lift with a built-in gear reduction—the perfect combo for taking on a brutal bounty hole.

What makes them better than a regular lift kit with a transmission gear reduction you ask? There are a few big differences:

  • They work by changing your axles’ centerlines in all four hubs, so your suspension angles remain the same as stock
  • Because the suspension geometry is unchanged, you can put a traditional lift on top of a portal lift
  • The gear reduction is in the hub, so your entire drivetrain wears less and works less when turning your tires

Basically, it’s a big lift that lets you run big tires and gives you the gear reduction to make turning those tires easy.

Be sure to check out our four-wheeler GDP Portals for more mud mayhem. With multiple gear reduction options available, you get exactly what you need to fit for your setup—just check out our portal gear reduction calculator.

4. Upgrade Your ATV Clutch Belt

If you’ve outfitted the rest of your quad with essential ATV mudding parts, you’ll need to upgrade your clutch belt too.

Your stock clutch belt is designed to work with stock parts, and once you have bigger tires or more torque coursing through your powertrain, your belt is gonna bite the dust.

You need to upgrade, and we have just the right mud belt for you. Our Mud Monster belts are designed for lots of low-gear riding and heavy pulls—exactly what you do in mud and the kind of riding that destroys stock belts.

5. Get an ATV Snorkel Kit

Snorkels give your air box and clutch case a safe place to breathe when your quad is in the mud. If you’re in deep mud without a snorkel kit, water and debris can get into your clutch case and engine causing wear at best and destroying parts at worst.

Snorkels generally consist of at least three risers: one for the airbox, one for the clutch air intake, and one for the clutch exhaust.

When you’re shopping for a snorkel kit, there are a few things to keep your eyes out for.

  • Make sure it has at least three risers, and make sure the intakes have filters
  • Vent tubes are an extra precaution—nice to have but not totally necessary
  • Machine-specific seals are a lot better than using silicone

Keep these tips in mind and you can make sure you’re getting a quality snorkel kit.

6. Make Sure You Have a Good ATV Winch

When your mirrors are the only parts of your ATV poking up through the mud, you need to have a winch you can count on to get you out. Don’t get some dirt-cheap winch that’s gonna short out and get gummed up in mud. You need something that’s built to get messy.

That’s where our Black Ops Winches come in.

Our 2,500 lb. and 3,500 lb. winches are ideal for most ATVs and they’re built with mudding in mind. Everything from the sealed housing to the synthetic rope to the wireless remote make them easy to use when they’re buried in mud. The synthetic rope won’t rust and the winch won’t crap out just because it’s submerged a foot or so below the surface.
