Portal gear lifts are the ultimate lift kit and the ultimate gear reduction. They give you everything you want all in one package so you can go big without wrecking your ride.
Here are the top 7 things you should know about GDP Portal Gear Lifts.
This is half the reason you want one of these. Obviously you want a lift that doesn’t put your axles at crazy angles, but you also get a big, fat gear reduction. You can choose between a 15% and a 30% gear reduction with 4″ portals and a 30% and 45% gear reduction with 6″ portals. Our 8” portals give you a 45% gear reduction. This boosts your torque A LOT. So you can run some big, honkin’ tires and they’ll still feel like stock. This does reduce your top speed a bit, but ask any racers running them and they’ll tell you it’s not enough to affect their race performance. The extra torque does, though. Your wheels will turn no matter what you’re climbing over.
Our gears are what separates the professionals from the imitators. It changes this thing from a good enough portal to a must-have portal. We didn’t invent portals, but these gears go a long way to perfecting it. They’re made of 9310 alloy steel that are precision ground for less friction which gives you less heat, less noise, and less wear. They mate perfectly and run smooth.
This thing’s pretty cool. We made a single hub that’s compatible with 4/110, 4/115, 1/137, and 4/156 wheels. You can put whatever wheels you want on this thing… as long as they’re big enough and have the right offset. The slotted rotors keep cool so you can keep your breaking power high, and the tapered input makes it sit rock solid on the output shaft.
The backing plates sit between your portal hubs and your suspension. They hold everything together, so they’ve got to be really stinking strong. We make them out of an advanced steel alloy. This isn’t your standard heavy-duty steel—it’s a special alloy that has a much better strength-to-weight ratio than carbon steel. It’s even stronger than chromoly, and it makes for a super-tough backbone to the portal boxes.
Our portal boxes are available in cast or billet aluminum—it’s your choice. Either way, you get portal boxes that are built with tons of experience. We’ve built and sold hundreds of thousands of these boxes, so we know a thing or two about making them strong. They’re packed with material to eliminate weak spots and they’re set up to maximize oil flow. They are not vented because theses boxes don’t need vents (they run cool enough and don’t leak) and we found that vents tend to become a failure point, especially in mud. That’s no good. Altogether you get strength where you need it, and it keeps things running cool.
Each portal box utilizes double angular contact bearings for the output (where our drive shaft turns the hub). These bearings are designed to take huge loads and huge hits so that your portals won’t wear or break prematurely. It’s a first for the industry. A regular bearing would wear quickly or implode due to the weight of the machine. Our bearings are built stronger, and they’re perfect for portals.
