What’s up guys, today we’re going to be showing you how to install Super ATV’s brake lock on this Can-Am Maverick X3. So, let’s get right to it.
The first thing you’re going to do is grab a utility blade. Go down behind your brake pedal and you’ll see where your steering shaft goes through the firewall to your power steering unit. This whole boot here will not come off the machine unless you remove the steering shaft. We’re not going to do that. Instead, take a utility blade and cut a slice down the center of the boot to remove it from the machine.
Once we’ve sliced our boot, we’re going to remove all of the push pins. There are four push pins that need to be removed in order for the boot to come off the machine. After removing the push pins, if the boot isn’t fully cut, slide it up and finish cutting any remaining part. Finally, remove the boot from the machine.
Head over to the bench and get the template. In the instructions, there is a template that shows you what you need to cut out. I’ve traced out the area that needs cutting. We need to cut out this area and this area, leaving a little bit of material all the way around the edge.
Take a very sharp utility blade and start your cut. Carefully follow the traced lines and remove the excess material. Once trimmed out, if there is any excess paint marker, take a little shot of brake cleaner and spray it on the boot. This will clean up the paint marker.
Now, take a wrench and put it on the head of the 18mm bolt going through your rack and pinion. Then, remove the nut on the inside of the machine. Once the nuts are removed, reinstall the boot using the factory push pins.
Next, grab your brake lock and install it to the bolts where you just previously removed the nuts. Hold the brake lock in place, put a wrench on the nuts, and fully tighten the hardware. Ensure the brake lock is securely fastened.
Finally, go through and make sure your hardware is fully tightened, the push pins are reinstalled, and the boot is firmly seated where it needs to be. Check that the parking brake is functioning as it should.
