In this video, we will guide you through the installation process of SuperATV’s MaxDrive power flip windshield on a Honda Pioneer 1000. This comprehensive step-by-step tutorial will ensure a smooth and efficient installation. Let’s get started.
To begin, remove the hood of your Honda Pioneer 1005. Start by flipping up the latches and turning them to release the hood. This step is crucial as it provides access to the areas where you will route the necessary wires for the windshield installation. Once the hood is off, proceed to remove the five-millimeter Allen bolt located at the corner of the fender and three push pins. These need to be removed to allow for proper wire routing.
Next, grab one of the connectors from the wiring harness that will plug into the actuator. Carefully snake the harness down between the dash and the fender, ensuring it reaches the appropriate location. It’s important to keep the wiring hidden and organized for a clean installation. Leave the excess wire hanging out for now and repeat this process for the opposite side. To keep the wires hidden and tidy, run the wire over the tube in the dash.
Decide on the placement of your rocker switch on the dash. In this example, a hole was cut on the driver’s side, but you can choose any suitable location that is convenient for you. After cutting the hole, remove the rubber near the steering wheel to reveal two push pins. Remove these push pins and take out the panel to access the wiring. Feed the rocker switch plug through the hole and pull it through. Connect the plug to the rocker switch, ensuring it is aligned correctly. Feed the harness back into the dash and pop the switch into place.
Move to the battery and remove the hardware securing the terminals. Attach the black wire from the harness to the ground side of the battery and secure it with the factory hardware. Repeat this process with the red wire on the positive side of the battery. It’s essential to ensure a secure connection for proper functionality. Leave the wires loose for now; they will be tidied up later in the installation process.
Remove the hardware from the clamps and position them on the cage of the vehicle. If your vehicle has a roof, loosen its hardware to lift it out of the way. This step is necessary to install the clamps properly. Ensure that the two threaded holes of the clamps face outwards and the hardware holes face the inside of the vehicle. Place the clamps in the specified locations: one in the corner and another near the mid-section of the cage. This setup will provide the necessary support for the windshield.
Gather the necessary hardware: M6 by 20mm Allen bolts with M6 flat washers, M6 by 20mm hex head bolts, and M8 Allen bolts with M8 flat washers. Begin by installing the driver-side bracket with the SuperATV logo facing inside, aligning it with the factory threaded hole. Leave the hardware loose to allow for adjustments. This flexibility is crucial for proper alignment. Repeat the process for the passenger side. Install actuator brackets inside the previously installed brackets, ensuring they are secured with the M6 Allen-headed hardware. These brackets will hold the actuators in place, allowing the windshield to open and close smoothly.
Remove the protective film from the windshield and prepare the seals. Apply the bulb seal to the sides of the windshield, ensuring the bulb portion faces the cage. This seal will help prevent water and debris from entering the vehicle. The straight seal goes along the bottom, while the D-seal is applied between the upper and lower portions of the windshield. Once the seals are in place, install the windshield onto the machine, securing it with the provided hardware. Ensure the windshield fits snugly against the dash and the cage without gaps. This step is essential for proper functionality and to prevent any rattling.
Secure the windshield to the previously installed brackets using the eight-millimeter Allens. Ensure all hardware is in place but not fully tightened. This allows for final adjustments to ensure everything is aligned correctly. Next, use the M6 Allens with sealing washers to secure the upper portion of the windshield to the clamps. Once everything is in position and aligned correctly, fully tighten all hardware. This ensures the windshield is securely attached and functions properly.
Install the power actuators by inserting the bushings into the actuators and securing them to the actuator brackets with the provided hardware. Connect the actuators to the previously run harnesses, ensuring all connections are secure. Repeat this process for the other side. The actuators are responsible for opening and closing the windshield, so it’s crucial to ensure they are installed correctly and securely.
Remove the protective film from the windshield and ensure everything is adjusted correctly. Tidy up the wires, securing any excess to prevent clutter and potential interference. This step is essential for a clean and professional installation. Test the functionality of the power flip windshield to confirm everything is working as expected. This includes checking the opening and closing mechanisms to ensure they operate smoothly.
