[00:00] Introduction

If your UTV’s steering feels loose, clunky, or unresponsive, it’s time for an upgrade. In this video, Braden Adams introduces the RackBoss 2.0 Rack and Pinion from SuperATV, designed to replace stock components with a high-strength alternative built for durability and performance. Follow along as we install it on a Polaris General XP 1000, covering everything from disassembly to final toe alignment.

[00:45] Tools You’ll Need and Initial Prep

Braden gives a quick rundown of the tools you’ll need:

  • Socket and wrench set (15mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm)
  • Push pin removal tools
  • Ratchet wrench (recommended for tight spaces)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Torque wrench
  • Jack and jack stands or a lift

Start the process by lifting your machine securely and removing both front wheels for full access to the front suspension and steering components.

[01:12] Remove Tie Rod Ends from the Knuckle

Use an 18mm socket to remove the castle nut that secures the tie rod end to the knuckle. If the rod is stuck in place, use a hammer-on-hammer method: hold one hammer against the knuckle and strike it with a second to break the taper loose. Repeat this process on the opposite side.

[01:54] Optional: Remove the Front Shocks for Better Access

Removing the shocks isn’t required but will make the install easier, especially for filming or visibility. Braden demonstrates removing the lower shock bolt and strapping the shock up—or completely removing it if desired. Reinstall the hardware in place for reference later.

[02:38] Winch Removal (If Installed)

If your machine is equipped with a winch, it must be removed to access the rack. Start by disconnecting the solenoid wiring (hot and ground) and safely isolating the hot wire using electrical tape. Then unplug any solenoid connectors and remove the winch mounting bolts (typically 13mm). SuperATV’s Black Ops Winch is easier to remove than factory winches, but the process is similar.

[05:07] Remove Rack and Pinion Mounting Hardware

Remove the three nuts securing the rack—two on the bottom and one up top. Leave one nut in place temporarily to keep the rack stable while detaching the steering shaft. Use a 15mm socket and a ratchet or electric ratchet to speed up removal.

[05:24] Disconnect the Steering Shaft

Use a 17mm wrench on the nut and a 15mm socket on the bolt to remove the pinch bolt from the steering shaft. Confirm the shaft is loose on the splines. Then go back and remove the last mounting nut so you can begin sliding out the rack.

[06:00] Slide the Rack Out of the Frame

You’ll need extra clearance to remove the rack. Slide the differential forward by removing the four 15mm bolts from underneath. Also, remove the two front bumper bolts if equipped. Gently rock the differential forward to create space for the rack to maneuver out.

[07:06] Easier Rack Removal Option: Remove the Differential

If clearance is still tight, remove the axles and differential for easier rack removal. Start by:

  • Removing the brake caliper, axle nut, and sway bar link
  • Popping the axle free from the differential
  • Repeating the process on the opposite side
Then knock out the roll pin on the prop shaft, unplug the differential wiring harness, and detach the vent line. Once all connections are removed, carefully lift the diff out of the frame.

[08:57] Rack Removal – Final Extraction

Now that space has been created, slide the stock rack out. This step can be frustrating without clearance, so take your time to maneuver around the diff tube or remove it entirely as shown above.

[09:10] RackBoss 2.0 Installation Prep

Before installing the new RackBoss 2.0, ensure your steering wheel is perfectly centered. SuperATV racks ship centered, and the rack shaft has a painted mark indicating correct alignment. Don’t rotate the shaft during install or your steering wheel will be off.

[09:55] Install Rack onto Steering Shaft and Frame

Slide the RackBoss 2.0 into position and onto the steering shaft splines. If needed, open the yoke slightly to allow for fitment. Once aligned, reinstall the pinch bolt. Confirm again that your steering wheel is straight before bolting the rack to the frame.

[10:43] Mounting the Rack to the Frame

Secure the rack using the provided hardware:

  • Driver side: M10 x 80mm long bolts
  • Passenger side: M10 x 75mm bolts
    Torque to spec once installed.

[11:20] Reinstall the Differential and Propshaft

Carefully lower the differential back in, being mindful of the wiring harness. Align the propshaft splines and insert the roll pin. If reused, ensure the pin is still snug—otherwise, replace it. Reconnect the vent line and wiring harness.

[12:34] Reassemble Front Suspension

Reinstall your axles into the knuckles, connect sway bar links, and reattach the upper A-arms. Reinstall the hub, castle nut, brake caliper, and suspension pinch bolts. Repeat the same steps on the opposite side to restore full suspension assembly.

[13:41] Install Tie Rods and Rod Ends

Thread the inner tie rods onto the rack (smooth side goes in). Then thread the outer tie rods on, leaving them about ¾ of the way in to allow for toe adjustment.
Insert the tapered stud into the knuckle where the OEM tie rod was, then install the tie rod and misalignment spacers. Secure with 19mm nuts above and below, tightening with an impact and wrench to seat the taper. Add cotter pins.

[16:11] Double-Adjustable Toe Alignment Setup

Reinstall the front wheels and lower the machine to the ground. Roll the machine back and forth to settle the suspension. Braden explains how the RackBoss 2.0’s double-adjustable tie rods make alignment easy—just rotate the tie rod to adjust toe in or out.

[17:00] Final Toe Adjustment and Jam Nut Lockdown

With the suspension settled and wheels straight, measure from tread-center to tread-center on the front and rear of the front tires:

  • A slight toe-in (under 5mm) is acceptable
  • Ideally aim for 0mm toe for best performance

Once toe is dialed in, tighten the jam nuts. Braden recommends adding thread locker to prevent them from backing off during rough rides.

Hello I just installed a rack boss 2.0 on my wife’s og maverick it’s very tight and I was super happy until I drove it and it seems like my dps isn’t working at all but I have no codes so I’m just wondering if there is something I can do. I used one of these on my long travel commander and it works amazing but it doesn’t have dps
