[0:00] What’s up guys? Today we’re going to talk about SuperATV’s Replacement Winch Ropes. We’ll show you how to change one and talk about the different color options.
Right now, we offer blue, red, orange, and black winch ropes for 2500, 3500, 4500, 5000, and 6000 pound winches.
Obviously, every machine is going to be a little bit different on where you mount the winch. We chose the Teryx because it’s right here on the bumper. It’ll be nice and easy to show you. On some machines you may have to remove the winch from the machine.
[0:38] The first thing you’ll do is set your winch to free spool and just pull your winch rope out. Ours isn’t broken, so we have a lot more rope than you may have if you’ve broken your winch rope. But it’s still the same concept—just pull it all out.
Once you get to this point, you’ll notice you have some tape as well. It’s looped together. I like to feed some of my rope back through the hole to take some of the tension off of it. You also want to pull this piece of rope through the loop here, just like that, it’ll pull back around.
With all this tape on here, it will be hard to get it back through. You can peel all of this off just to help you a little bit. We’ll rotate it so we can get a good, straight pull, then we’ll pull it completely out.
Now our old winch rope is removed and today we’ve chosen a red winch rope. We’ll get it all strung out here, just like this. Now take this end and slide it through the big hole. You have to work it through—sometimes it can be a little tight. That’s good, though, because you don’t want it to pull out.
[1:52] So you’ll pull a little bit through here. I like to wrap it around the wrench, kind of how it was oriented before. You want to get a decent amount and wrap it around the winch. Slide it through here.
To make sure it doesn’t want to come out and be extra safe, I like to get a little bit of electrical tape and tape this edge that we’ve laid over here. Just tape it down in a couple spots. It’s hard to wrap the tape all the way around the winch, so I like to get a couple pieces and make sure they’re good and wrapped.
Then you can pull this tight. We’ll find the end of the rope here. Make sure to slide it through.
[3:01] Now our rope is all the way through and ready to be winched in. I have my remote and I’m going to feed this in. We want to feed it evenly across the spool here. Make sure to keep it nice and tight and together.
Once it’s all the way out to the edge, start working it back the opposite way. Just continue working it back and forth.
Once we get to this point, we’ll need to grab our old winch rope and remove our stop blocks, as well as our clevis hook.
[3:57] Go right around here, just like this. We’ll go ahead and lay a washer down in here. Start the nuts. Then we’ll tighten these up to where it barely brings it together. You don’t want to over-tighten it. If you over-tighten it, sometimes it can split the stop block from too much tension.
Take it and slide it onto our new row, just like that. Bend it away from itself. Run it up, just like that. And there you have it!
