
That pesky Polaris RZR 1000 check engine light is mocking you again. Your dash lights are called “idiot lights” for a reason, and you’re not going to be caught dead at the park without resetting your RZR’s check engine light first.
Maybe it’s not that bad, but a check engine light that won’t go away is annoying regardless. We’ll give you some sure-fire ways to read your Polaris RZR 1000 check engine light codes and reset them.
Accessing diagnostic codes for each model and year can vary. Be sure to check your machine’s manual for specific instructions.
To locate the check engine codes on a Polaris RZR 1000, follow these steps:
Using the Display:
Blink Code Method (Older Models without a Digital Display):
The Polaris RZR XP 1000 has had a digital display since it was launched in 2014. If you have a different older Polaris model without a digital display, you’ll use the blink code method below.
Again, different models may use different methods. Check your machine’s manual for specific instructions.
Using a Diagnostic Tool (Optional):

65590, 65591, 65592
If you get an error code like 65590, 65591, or 65592, you’re probably dealing with a clutch belt problem.
Most Polaris RZR 1000 check engine light codes are related to the drive belt and pop up after belt replacement. If you own a RZR, this probably doesn’t surprise you.
These error codes tend to show up after belt replacements because the interior of the clutch is still dirty, or the belt wasn’t installed or broken in properly. This can lead to a misfire code due to belt slippage or damage. And, of course, these error codes aren’t generally included in your manual!
We’ve got you covered when it comes to installing and break in a drive belt properly. This guide will help you get your belt installed correctly the first time—and resolve your check engine light.
If you’re sure it’s not the belt, this code can also indicate an issue with spark plugs, the coil, plug wires, injectors, compression, timing, or a fuel issue causing a misfire.
520344
The 520344 error is generally related to the emissions system or O2 sensor. You can get an FMI (fault mode) of 15 or 17 with this error.
An FMI of 15 is often caused by a dirty air filter—a relatively simple fix.
An FMI of 17 is generally a result of a clogged fuel filter—another simple fix.
However, both FMIs can be caused by a bad oxygen/O2 sensor. And 15 can be an issue with the MAP sensors or caused by exhaust or intake leaks, which can be much harder to resolve.
FMI 17 can also indicate a bad fuel pump, which can cost you a pretty penny. If your fuel pump is the cause of your check engine code, get an Up & Running Polaris RZR Fuel Pump. They’re way cheaper than an OEM replacement but work just as well.
Cross your fingers and hope for a dirty filter if you see Polaris error code 520344!
3056 & 520209
Polaris RZR XP 1000 check engine code 3056 and 520209 are also fairly common. These errors generally indicate some problem with the O2 sensor as well.
The problem could lie with the sensor itself or bad wiring. The sensor may need cleaned, rewired, or replaced.
Other Codes
Your RZR can throw tons of other codes. Polaris shares just under one hundred SPNs, each with at least one FMI—and many have more.
We include a handy Polaris RZR diagnostic code table below to help you brainstorm solutions for the problem causing your check engine light.
Refer to your Polaris RZR service manual for a complete list of error codes and troubleshooting steps. If the issue persists, consult a Polaris dealer or technician for assistance.
Your number one choice should always be to fix the problem that’s throwing the code. Of course, that’s easier said than done.
But if you’re confident you’ve fixed the problem that was causing the light to come on in the first place, it may be time to try something else.
If your RZR’s check engine light doesn’t reset, it doesn’t necessarily mean you did something wrong. Your UTV might just need some time to sort itself out.
The length of time required to reset your light depends on the diagnostic code you get, and it’s hard to tell which ones will take longer.
With some codes, the check engine light will reset after 4000 engine revolutions (assuming the issue is fixed). Others will take much longer and require many key-on and off cycles.
And there are some that won’t reset with this method at all and require specialized tools.
If your RZR’s check engine light doesn’t reset on its own, you can try using specialized tools.
There are a number of tuners and other scan tools that can manually reset your check engine light.
If you don’t have one, don’t want to get one, or it doesn’t work for you, you may have a code that can only be reset using Polaris’ proprietary “Polaris Digital Wrench Software.” Your local Polaris dealer should have access to this software and be able to reset your light in this case.
If you’ve tried everything else and can’t get your check engine light to go away, you’ll have to take it to a dealer.
If you’re at your wits’ end, and you have to get that check engine light off RIGHT NOW, there’s one more thing you can try.
Before we tell you what to do, we’ll tell you why we consider it a last resort. This process resets your ECU, but it can inadvertently reset parts of your ECU’s memory, which can lead to more issues. Some are easy to resolve, but others might require you to replace your ECU if it’s permanently damaged.
In theory, this is a risky method. In practice, it seems to work out.
To reset the ECU, you have to disconnect the battery completely. Then touch your RZR’s wire harness terminals together. This will drain the capacitors and anything else in your ECU that holds a charge and is a guaranteed method of resetting your Polaris RZR’s check engine light.
Just remember—if you didn’t fix the problem, your check engine light is going to come back on eventually.
With your idiot light situation resolved, you can ride with confidence knowing you’re just as mechanically intelligent as the next person. And when your buddy’s check engine light turns on, you can save the day.

I have a Polaris 900 trail rated. I hit a deep water hole this weekend and my light came on the Code displays as 520207 4 switch says Voltage below normal, or shorted to low source . It is save to reset check engine light. Or what does this code mean and do I need to do anything?

I have a Polaris 2014 RZR 1000 XP I cannot get my engine light to go out. I’ve disconnected the cables I’ve touched the cables together to release any stored energy but still the light stays on. What are my options?
What a pain. If you’re absolutely sure you’ve fixed the problem and you’ve discharged the power, I would try riding on it for several more hours to see if it will finally clear itself. Hey Albert! Those terminals are the positive and negative terminals connected to your battery’s posts. Take them off the battery so your machine is completely disconnected from power, then touch them together to drain any power hanging around in your system. You can get the same effect just by disconnection your battery and leaving it alone for a while.
Keep in mind that this can cause issues with your ECU. It’s not super common, but it can happen. You definitely want to double-check all your other options first.
I have a 2018 Polaris Rzr xp 1000. I have a check engine light cylinder 2 misfire??

Armando did you ever figure this out? I had codes 65590 and 65592 come up this weekend. Both are cylinder misfire I changed the plugs it runs alot better idling the check engine light went off but there codes are still there.

When you say touch the wire harness terminals together what do they look like? I have a Rzr 2016 XPO turbo 4, it won’t start and throws codes 84 and 190, I can start it if I unplug the ignition switch and jump the pins bit more power steering and all the lights are on. Found a short in the 3 wires going into the passenger side and fixed them but still nothing.

Where can I get the adapter plug to hook up to my autel diagnostic reader?
I have a 2015 1000xp 4 eps. It’s not the 4 pin everyone has been posting. Total pin holes looks like 20, it only looks like 10 are wired. Backside wires going in 3 at top, 2 at bottom. Red, orange and black top. Green and yellow bottom.

Hey I have a 2016 rzr1000xp4 an it’s throwing the code 520344-15 an I have done everything you all have posted an replaced map sensor O2 sensor feel injectors spark plugs and plug wires an all that stuff has made it run better but still have a small miss an low speeds an the code will not go away any suggestions thanks
I have a 2018 1000xp with code 520344 15. Changed injectors and rubber boots from throttle body to cylinders. Cannot get code to reset or clear. Machine will not run. Can get it to fire but not run. Tried resetting ECU but it won’t reset. What am I doing wrong

Hey All, I have a rzr 900 T 2017. With 800 miles on it !! Normal riding for weekend turned it off. Won’t start!!!! Checked everything found that I have no spark!!!! Replaced coil and plugs. I have all my lights working brake lights also. Will not start. Battery fine. Turns over great but no spark!!!! Help!!!!!

I have a 2020 RZR s 1000 trail periodically whe I start out the check engine light will appear with a loss of power. Push gas pedal down again light goes out and I will have power. Did this on and off today. Any ideas. Thanks
Hey Jim, thanks for checking in. This could be several things depending on what the code is throwing. A loss of power could be spark plugs, belt, clutching, faulty instrument cluster components, etc. Contacting your local Polaris dealership would be your best bet of tackling this issue.
Error code 0-520344, 17 shows “adaptive fuel correction bank 1, valid data/below normal range”
Can you put that in everyday language and is it something that is urgent?

2014 XP1000, I had an overheat issue with the fan not cycling properly. I installed a fan override switch, but haven’t had to use it. Since the over heating, an “E” is next to the gear indicator. It runs fine, but I can’t get the E to go away.
Hey Bruce! The “E” just means you have the engine temperature selected on the display. It’ll go away if you cycle through your display options and view other metrics. Thanks for reading!

On a RZR XP4 Turbo S I get a code that is not listed anywhere I can see. There is a DynoJet Power Vision installed. I am new to this machine. The obscure code is FMI-0, SPN-1127, and the count code shows 1. Please help if possible. Does this code relate to DynoJet rather than the stock setup?

By wiring harness terminals, do you mean the battery terminals?
Hey Gary! Yes, disconnect the ring terminals from the battery and touch them together. Make sure the battery is completely disconnected first. The purpose is to drain the power from the ECU. Thanks for tuning in with us!

I still think it is the ECM but the repair didn’t fix and I haven’t replaced it yet.
They are not cheap.

I just had it repaired, but have not installed it yet to see if it cleared everything.

I have a 2017 xp4 turbo, I had a pressure line come off from the turbo going to the control switch. Put it back on. Still get the 31 1127 code. Replaced the switch and the bov and still have the 31 1127 code. Any thoughts?

Hey Brian, that code indicates that your fuel mixture is leaner than normal but still OK for now. Check your air filter and airbox lid first. If they’re clogged or dirty, clean/replace them. If the check engine light comes back after resetting it with the tips in this article, then you’ll have to look deeper. It could indicate a cracked throttle body boot or a fuel delivery issue—possibly a bad fuel pump. The good news is that often the simplest fix is the right one.

1. My RZR xp4 1000 throws the code 520344 17. I have tried some stuff including replacing the O2 sensor without success. Main problem is my machine will not accept any diagnostic tool. Each time the tool is connected it blows the acc fuse. there is no load on the acc circuit. What could be a possible problem?
2. I am interested in replacing the ECM/ECU if necessary but there are no Polaris dealers in my country. any suggestions where online this is available
Hey Lincoln, for that code there are a few different things you could look at:
It could also be a bad ECU or bad programming on the ECU. To that end you can get ECUs online at Polaris parts retailers like this one: https://www.polarispartshouse.com/
When it comes to diagnostic tools blowing your acc fuse, that’s pretty odd. What tools have you tried?
Here’s one for you-
2015 XP1000. Has code 520344 17. Put new plugs and 02 sensor in it. But cannot reset check engine light. Left it disconnected from battery for 4 days, light is still on. Disconnected battery again and touched the pos/neg terminals a few times, light still on.
Drove it at 4000 rpms in low gear for a few minutes, light still on.
It runs better with the new parts, but light will not go off.
Hey Warren, check your air filter first and replace it if you need to. If that doesn’t work, then you need to check for cracked air boots or other air leaks. The throttle body adapter boots are prone to cracking. It can be pretty tough to spot these cracks sometimes, but that seems to be what your error code is pointing to. Thanks for the question!
Thanks for the reply. But I’m really looking for how to reset the check engine light. So far no method has worked.
And I did replace the air filter, which was dirty. Runs fine, but engine light won’t turn off.
If nothing else works, your only option is to get the light cleared with a diagnostic tool. Some tuners can do it, but your best option is usually to find a dealer to do it for you. Hopefully they won’t charge you an arm and a leg for it.
I have a 2014 1000 xp throwing a 105 code. manual says its caused by “To high intake air temperature, to high/ to low voltage.” Do you know what causes that? how do I fix it?

Bought a RZR with a bad TPS sensor. Replaced the TPS sensor. They told us it just needed adjusted, tried adjusting it. We bought a new TPS sensor and the tool to adjust it. Now we have a 0 110 3 code and can’t get the light to go off. I’m a car mechanic tried the battery trick to clear the code. Just dumbfounded as to why I’m getting this code as I was nowhere near the temp sensor.

I was going through a huge mud hole and my belt broke and i was about 5 miles into the woods with a lot of huge mud holes and then another 10 miles home. A friend towed me home and it broke my wench cable and pulled my wench into the fan that hit mt radiator. I had to replace the radiator in my rzr 900s4 and everything was fine after that. About 2 weeks later my 4 wheel drive stayed activated. I parked it for the winter and it took almost a year to get to look at things because of back surgery. When I tried to start it the battery was dead. I charged the battery and it started fine so I backed it out of the garage and replaced the fro t demand drive fluid and that fixed the 4 wheel drive issue but when I started it the check engine e light stayed on. I checked the wires and found the fan wire unplugged and one of the wires that has a fuse had only one wire connected to the fuse. I fixed that but my check engine light is still on. I have cobes 520207 and 520230 and E 150 thru 183. They will not go away but the machine runs and drives fine. My battery meter shows the battery at 11 volts sitting and 12.3 running. What can I do now.
