Polaris Ranger doors—let’s talk about them. Doors are one of the most popular aftermarket add-ons for the Ranger. After all, the stock nets are basically just window dressing, and Polaris’ official full doors burn a hole in your pocket hot enough to make the fire department come running.

But what aftermarket doors do you really need for your Polaris Ranger? Do you need the same doors your buddy has that goes mudding every weekend? Or would you the doors your cousin uses to feed their livestock work better?

There are lots of doors to choose from, which is why we’ve put together a quick guide to help you understand the differences and advantages of each. When you’ve got all the deets, you’ll be able to get the best Polaris Ranger Doors for your lifestyle.

Polaris Ranger Half Doors Protect You From the Trail

Polaris Ranger half doors are usually aluminum doors that close off the bottom half of your cab. They typically come up to just below shoulder height to make a decent armrest.

What Half Doors Do Best:

  • They’re lightweight
  • They’re tough
  • They look really good
  • They’re excellent at protecting you from debris

Anybody that’s worried about lots of heavy hits from the trail can make use of a half door. Whether you’re kicking up rocks, launching sticks, or spraying gritty mud everywhere, nothing beats the protection that aluminum gets you.

If you’ve ever been hit by debris kicked up by your front tires or whacked by passing branches, or if you flinch every time you drive through gravel, half doors will give you protection and piece of mind.

Plus, they look great. Nothing gives you that sleek, black, armored look quite like aluminum half doors.

If that’s not enough for you, they’re also a great bang for your buck. They won’t run up your accessories bill like full OEM doors would.

What Half Doors Don’t Do:

What half doors don’t do at all is protect you from the weather.

Sure, they’ll stop puddles from splashing into your cab after a rain, but they won’t keep out cold air, heavy precipitation, or even dust. If you’re looking to keep the elements out, you’ll want to look beyond half doors. That’s just not what they’re designed to do.

Full Polaris Ranger Hard Doors Protect You From the Elements

Most full aftermarket doors for the Polaris Ranger are made from polycarbonate and steel. A polycarbonate sheet is cut to fit your door frame and affixed to a lightweight steel frame. The frame then mounts securely to the vehicle with hinges and latches.

What Full Hard Doors Are Great At:

  • They give you full side protection from the elements
  • They protect you from trail debris
  • They’re an integral part of a full cab enclosure
  • They come with versatile features like sliding windows or removable top halves
  • They give you a view of the ground directly around your machine

Basically, they’re great at making your cab more comfortable. But let’s take a closer look at how it excels at all these things.

Full Polaris Ranger hard doors are a key part of a cab enclosure. They completely block off the sides of your cab so wind, rain, and dust can’t get in.

They’re made from polycarbonate which is insanely tough. They can keep rocks and branches out as well.

They’re also incredibly versatile, giving you more options for vents and sliding windows than you could ever hope for with an aluminum door. Some are even convertible so you can turn your full door into a half door in just a couple minutes.

Sliding windows are just one the features that full doors often have built right in. They also give you plenty of light, a better view of the terrain around you, and locking latches.

To top them off, the transparent polycarbonate they’re made from gives you plenty of light and a better view. It’s easy to spot your front tires when you’re trying to find a clean line through rocks, mud, or logs.

Bottom line: if you want a more comfortable cab all year round, a full door is perfect for you. They might not be as sexy or tough looking as an aluminum door, but nothing beats them for year-round protection.

What Full Hard Doors Don’t Do:

Like we said, they’re not here to make your UTV look like a burly, battle-ready beast the same way aluminum doors do. They look great, professional, and sleek, but they’re just not built to turn heads that way.

If you want the best practical protection you can get, go with full poly doors. If you you prefer looking as good as possible and year-round weather isn’t an issue, go with aluminum half doors.

Any Door Is Better than No Door

Now that you know about all these great door options, let’s take a look at what you’re probably running now: nets. They’re not good for much, and any aftermarket door for the Polaris Ranger is better than sticking with those pieces of glorified swiss cheese. Nets are for catching butterflies after all. Doors are for off-roading.
