At the risk of sounding like a total cheese ball, the New Year is always full of new adventures, and 2020 is no exception. Today we’re going to introduce one of these new adventures that we’re pretty dang excited about. We at SuperATV are proud to announce ourselves as the Exclusive US Sales Partner for Finntrail, a company from Estonia that specializes in wading gear designed specifically for off-roading.
Finntrail might be unfamiliar to you at first, but that doesn’t mean these guys are new to the market. Finntrail has been designing and manufacturing waterproof riding gear for over a decade now, and they’ve got a pretty decent-sized following. But how did they get their start?
It all began when the founders realized that pretty much all of the quality wading products on the market were geared towards either fishing or hunting—neither of which is ideal for off-roading. Fishing waders do a great job of keeping the mud and water out, but they aren’t always durable enough to put up with aggressive off-road lifestyles. And hunting gear is typically tough enough to endure the repeated trail torture inflicted by serious riders, but that toughness comes from stiff, extra-thick material that restricts your movement. There wasn’t anything that offered the trifecta of being waterproof, durable, AND comfortable.
Finntrail recognized this need in the market—the need for built-to-last wading gear that can stand up to the kind of trail torture that off-road enthusiasts live for—and they acted on it. What followed was a decade’s worth of designing, innovating, and real-world field testing. And the Finntrail company was born.
Finntrail’s mission is to create technologically-advanced ATV and UTV wading gear for hardcore off-roaders and outdoor enthusiasts. They focus on continual product development, positive customer service, and worldwide brand awareness—the latter of which is evidenced by their recent break into the North American market.
In short, Finntrail is a company built by off-road enthusiasts who understand what riders need—just like SuperATV.
Before we go on, let’s back up for a minute and look at where Finntrail comes from. They’re based in the Estonian capital city of Tallinn. Now, we know Estonia probably isn’t at the top of your “most well-known European countries” list, and it’s definitely not the first place we think of when talking about nations with vibrant off-road communities. But take a closer look at this small, picturesque country and you might be surprised at what you see.
To give you some perspective, Estonia borders the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea to the north and west, and Latvia and Russia to the south and east. It’s a small country—roughly half the size of our home state of Indiana—and nearly half of their land is wooded. Estonia is home to five national parks, 159 protected nature reserves, and over 1,400 lakes, along with lots of rivers and bogs. With so many woods and such vibrant terrain, it’s no surprise that outdoor hobbies like hunting and fishing have been common hobbies there for centuries—and, more recently, off-roading has joined that list.
Thanks to the year-round decent temps (60 degrees Fahrenheit in the warmest months and 20 degrees in the coldest), there’s really no bad time to hit up the riding scene in Estonia. There are several trails and parks sprinkled throughout the country, and many off-road clubs have been formed as popularity of the sport has grown over the past decade. The southern part of the country even hosts a major off-road competition every fall called Klaperjaht, which attracts thousands of racers and spectators each year.
It’s obvious that the ATV/UTV culture has made an impact in Europe in recent years, which explains Finntrail’s popularity within that market. What we’re most excited about, though, is seeing how this company makes a splash in the US market. So how did this partnership get started, you ask?
It was a pretty serendipitous chain of events, actually. Back in October of 2019, the SuperATV team began actively searching to establish a partnership with a wading gear company. Waders are getting more and more popular across the US, especially in mud riding areas, and we wanted to find the best gear to share with our customers (and to use ourselves, obviously). Right around the time we began looking into different wading gear suppliers, Finntrail was also looking to expand to the States. They reached out to us and scheduled a visit, traveling to meet with us here in Indiana. We ultimately came to an agreement that allowed SuperATV to be the Exclusive US Sales Partner for their products.
While the timing of our connection was pretty perfect, it should be noted that we don’t jump into partnerships like this lightly. Finntrail has a pretty rigorous testing process and their products have been tried and endorsed by expert riders all over Europe, Canada, and the US—including the guys from AdrenalineJunkieProd and Extreme ATV Offroad. But we wanted to see these products in action for ourselves, so we decided to put them to the test.
The SuperATV team took their time conducting extensive field testing in actual riding conditions and in deep-water immersion. We analyzed our new Finntrail gear for several factors, including comfort and riding experience. With each seriously brutal test that we gave, it became more and more clear that the Finntrail products were passing each test with flying colors.
Our conclusion? Finntrail truly does have the best-quality wading gear on the market.
Finntrail products are available for purchase on the SuperATV website now. We have everything from boots to dry bags to thermal underwear, but the most highly-anticipated gear is, of course, the waders.
Finntrail waders are made with a unique multi-layer fabric that promotes protection, mobility, and breathability. They’re designed to keep you dry while doing what you love, so you’re guaranteed to stay comfortable no matter how much mud or water you find yourself facing. Each pair of waders also features built-in footwear (either muck boots or thick neoprene socks).
What impresses us most about the Finntrail waders, though, is how durable they are. This means you can go as hard as you want on the trails without worrying about ending up with a rip or tear in your gear. According to our very own off-road expert, Tyler Greves, “It’s going to be hard to tear these waders up, especially compared to other expensive gear I’ve bought in the past. They don’t get chewed on nearly as much by sticks and twigs and bushes.”
Everyone on our team is a huge fan of the Finntrail waders, and we can’t wait for you to try them for yourself!
If you’re not the kind of rider to find yourself in wet or muddy situations very often, fear not—our Finntrail selection offers something for everyone. We’ve got jackets, hats, protective face masks for both warm weather and cold weather, boots, socks, and even dry bag storage solutions. And the best part? Aside from being extra durable, all Finntrail gear is waterproof, so you never have to worry about your clothes or equipment being ruined in case of a surprise rainstorm.
We can’t wait to hear what you think of this new Finntrail gear! What products are you most excited to try?
