Everybody’s got their favorite riding spot. For a lot of us, we tend to stick to the UTV or ATV park that’s closest to us—not because we think it’s the biggest or most unique place to ride, but because we know everybody that goes there. It’s a mini community of riders who get together every weekend to show off their new bumpers, tires, and lift kits, and to see how they stand up to that obstacle that stopped them last time.
There’s certainly something to be said for those familiar parks where you know everybody’s name, but did you know that you’re probably just a few hours’ drive from a park that’s completely different from the one you go to every weekend? You’re more spoiled for choices than you might think, so why not try something new?
This is the first in a series of posts where we’re looking at your favorite places to ride all across the country. With the help of our Facebook and Instagram followers, we’ve curated a list of the best riding areas in the southern United States, and we have to say—our followers have great taste!
So here is your breakdown of the seven best riding spots in the South—what kind of riding they offer, how much you’ll pay, and what kind of amenities they have on site. We even included suggestions for where to stay and what to eat while you’re there. Read on and let us know if your favorite park made the list!

If you’re a fan of mud and you’ve never been to Hog Waller in Florida, what are you even doing with your life? This 1,100-acre outdoor family fun park offers more than 50 miles of trails that are perfect for riders of all experience levels, but the real attraction is the massive mud pit. Spanning six acres and sitting ten feet below ground level, it’s the perfect way to live out all of your muddy off-road dreams.
Hog Waller has some pretty cool history behind it, too. Ever wondered where the name comes from? As it turns out, the park sits amidst what used to be an old logging community in the early 1900s. Back then, wild hogs ran rampant through the woods. They were quite the nuisance to the loggers working in that area, but were often the only source of food for families living on surrounding farms. While the hogs have all cleared out by now (that we’re aware of…), their legacy lives on in the name of this mud paradise.
And speaking of history, most of the trails and roads you’ll see at the park have some stories behind them, too. Many of the main roads throughout Hog Waller are over 100 years old! More than likely you’ll be riding on old railroad beds or support roads from the nearby (former) sawmill. Pretty cool!
SIZE: | 1,100-acre park (2.5 miles long x 1 mile wide) with over 50 miles of trails |
STYLE: | Various trails offer something for riders of all experience levels. The biggest attraction is a 6-acre mud pit that sits 10′ below ground level and is surrounded by a safety fence. Do you have family members who don’t ride? No problem! Many visitors just come as spectators to check out the sloppy, muddy action up close and personal, and they have just as much fun. |
COST: | • One day = $20 per person • Two days = $40 per person • Three days = $50 per person • Four days = $60 per person • Kids 10 and younger get in free! NOTE: Admission fees are collected on a “cash only” basis, so make sure to hit up the ATM before heading that way! |
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: | The trails are perfect for newbies through experts. That big mud pit, though, is a different story. Approach with caution! This massive mud pit is only for experienced riders with specially-built machines. |
OPEN: | Weekends are specific to machine type. They typically have ATV/UTV-only weekends during the second weekend of each month, and 4×4 truck mud bog events are usually scheduled during the fourth weekend of the month. Depending on the event, gates may open on that Thursday or Friday morning. Make sure to check their event calendar before you haul! |
ACCOMMODATIONS: | • Camping spots available on a “first come, first served” basis • Cabins available for rent ○ $112.50/night plus tax with a two-night minimum stay • RV sites with hookups available for rent ○ $45/night plus tax |
AMENITIES: | • Bathing facilities and restrooms located throughout the park • Vendors selling food, clothing, snacks, and ATV/UTV supplies • Honda Pioneer 700s available for rent ○ Four hours = $463.22 ○ Six hours = $516.72 ○ Eight hours = $570.22 ○ Ten hours = $650.47 ○ Prices include tax and insurance. Call ahead to reserve. |

Whether you dine indoors or outside by the river, you’re guaranteed a one-of-a-kind local experience. ○ Price = $$ ○ Drive time = 30 minutes away • The Magnolia Cafe: Don’t let the “café” name fool you—you’ll find plenty of hot food options here too, from biscuits and gravy for breakfast to burgers for dinner. ○ Price = $ ○ Drive time = 25 minutes away |
EVENTS: | Hog Waller hosts various mud bog events throughout the year. Many events are machine specific, so again, you want to check their event calendar before locking in your plans. |
