The Best UTV Cab Heaters for Keeping Warm This Winter

Whether you ride for work or play, taking out your side-by-side starts to get uncomfortable as the days get colder. No one wants to put their rig in storage during the winter, but that first frigid wind blowing through your cab can be pretty convincing that waiting for warmer weather is the right decision. If you are going to keep riding, you can see how many layers and pairs of gloves you can put on and still move around—or you could get a cab heater.

Why Every UTV Owner Needs a Cab Heater

The best way to stay warm during winter riding is with a cab heater. Even full doors and windshields can’t keep the chill out on their own, so if you’re looking to extend your riding season, bringing some extra heat to the situation is vital. Not only do heaters make it more comfortable to take your side-by-side out during the cold months, but they can offer important protection out in the elements too.

Key Features to Consider When Buying a UTV Heater

The number one question you need to answer when choosing a heater for your side-by-side is: does it fit my machine? While there are some universal options, many heaters are designed for specific UTV makes and models so make sure your pick is compatible with your ride. Some other things to keep in mind include:

Heating Capacity

A little warm air isn’t going to cut it when the temperatures drop, so make sure your heater has the BTUs to bring the real heat when you need it. The actual heating power you need will vary depending on your side-by-side, especially if you have a four-person model, and the environment you’ll be riding in.

In the winter, a little more heat than you need is better than a little less, so when in doubt, aim for a heater with higher temperature capacity.

Installation

One of the best things about getting a cab heater built specifically for your UTV—besides the heat—is that they are pretty simple to install. Both under-dash and in-dash options are designed to work with your machine and come with all the wiring, tubing, and other hardware you need.

Prefer to leave the installation to the professionals? No problem at all. Heaters designed for easy at-home installation will be a cinch for your local pros.

Energy Efficiency and Durability

Make sure your UTV has the power to run a heater without causing issues. The last thing you want is a dead heater and a dead machine out in the winter elements.

Durability is also important when deciding on a cab heater—no matter if you’re riding for work or play, the conditions are going to be harsh. Find a heater that can stand up to consistent use and is built with materials that are proven to withstand the cold, ice, snow, temperature changes, debris, and the many other challenges winter brings.

Which Is the Best UTV Heater for You?

Keeping your cab comfortable during winter rides is essential, whether spinning donuts in the snow or clearing the driveway. Finding the right heater starts with choosing one that is designed to fit your rig and then selecting the specific options that meet your needs.

To stay as warm as possible on cold rides—and make sure your heat isn’t disappearing into the winter air—outfit your UTV with an enclosure or add specific pieces like a roof, doors, or front and back windshields. If you want to make sure your cab heats up fast and stays comfortable during your whole ride, adding a universal idle flow pump, quick start flow valve, and grille cover is the way to go. A bit of extra comfort like a seat warmer never hurts either!

Hi Clint—that’s a real tough one. UTV heaters are awesome, but they don’t put out nearly as much heat as something like a car heater. They’re certainly not cheap for a person on a fixed income either! Do you have a front and rear windshield and full doors installed already? Definitely start there. Keeping the wind and cold out is just as important as keeping the heat in.

Own a CF Moto ZForce 800 G2 Trail from 2023. I’m seventy years old and never warm. What kind of heater would you suggest for my side-by-side? Something that is simple to set up. I’m on an old age pension, so it’s easy on the wallet. Can you live in Northern Ontario?
