It’s no surprise that some of the best off-road riding spots in the United States are found in the great state of Texas. After all, they say everything’s better in Texas! (Or is it bigger? We digress.)
Seriously, though—if you’re looking for places to ride in the Lone Star State, you’re not hurting for options. Whether you’re hankerin’ for mud, hills, sand, or a little bit of everything, you’re never far from some prime ATV and UTV trails.
To help you out, we’ve put together a list of 10 of the most popular UTV trails in Texas. Here are the quick-and-dirty details of everyone’s favorite spots, in no particular order.

If your idea of a good time involves deep mud, creek crossings, and enough trails to ride all weekend, Alligator Run is calling your name. It has more than 5,000 acres, so you’ll find everything from easy cruising trails to muddy areas that’ll put your machine to work.
Mud has a way of ending up everywhere—including all over you and your passengers. A full windshield helps keep water, muck, and flying debris out of your cab so you can stay cleaner while tackling the sloppy stuff. Don’t forget the rear windshield to eliminate that suction that can happen with just a front windshield installed.
Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area is one of Texas’s most well-known riding spots. You’ve got miles of wooded trails with plenty of elevation changes, rocks, and technical sections. Whether you’re looking for an easy scenic ride or a tougher challenge, there’s a trail here for every skill level.
Rocky terrain can be hard on your suspension. Upgraded A-arms give you the strength and confidence to handle rough trails.
Childress ATV & Motocross Park packs a lot into a relatively small trail system. You’ll find wooded trails and motocross tracks. It’s the perfect area for mixed experience levels.
Even shorter rides can leave you exposed to heat and the sun. A roof helps keep the sun off your head and makes long hours behind the wheel a lot more comfortable.
Creekside Offroad Ranch is known for its challenging terrain with mud holes, creek crossings, hills, and sand all packed into one park. It’s a favorite for experienced riders who want a little bit of everything.
Deep ruts and hidden trail debris and obstacles can do serious damage underneath your machine. A skid plate protects your drivetrain and undercarriage so you can ride without worrying about every rock or stump.
Eisenhower State Park offers a calmer ride than most of Texas’s off-road parks. Its wooded trails are great for a relaxing day outdoors, making it a perfect choice for riders looking for scenic routes instead of extreme obstacles.
Long days weaving through wooded trails can wear you out faster than you think. Adding power steering reduces steering effort, cuts down on driver fatigue, and helps you stay comfortable from the first mile to the last.
Escondido Draw Recreation Area is the kind of place that keeps you on your toes. It’s in West Texas, so it has rocky climbs, steep hills, and wide-open desert scenery. Whether you’re taking the easier routes or tackling the tougher terrain, there’s plenty here for you to explore.
Rocky trails are where GDP Portals should come into play. They give you more ground clearance and extra torque, which makes it easier to crawl over obstacles and take on tough terrain without pushing your machine too hard.
General Sam’s Offroad Park has become one of East Texas’s best off-roading destinations thanks to its mix of mud, sand, creek crossings, hills, and wooded trails. No matter what kind of riding you’re into, you’ll probably find it here.
Traction can change quickly between mud, sand, and hard-packed trails. A dependable set of tires helps you stay in control no matter what conditions you run into.
Hidden Falls Adventure Park has thousands of acres of trails winding through Texas Hill Country. It has everything from beginner, friendly trails to technical rock crawling. It’s easy to spend an entire weekend exploring this massive park.
You’ll cover a lot of miles here, so it’s smart to bring extra gear along. A cargo box gives you secure storage for tools, recovery equipment, snacks, and anything else you’ll want on the trail.
The name makes it pretty obvious, but Mudbuddys is all about getting dirty. Mud pits, creek crossings, and wooded trails make it a popular destination whenever the weather cooperates.
Getting stuck is part of the fun—getting unstuck is another story. A Black Ops Winch makes recovering your machine a whole lot easier when the mud gets deeper than expected.
Northwest OHV Park may be smaller than some Texas riding areas, but it packs plenty of technical terrain into it. You’ll find rocky climbs and challenging obstacles that sometimes require careful driving.
Tight trails and rocky terrain make it easy to bump into something unexpectedly. An ultra-strong bumper adds protection when the trail gets a little more technical and rowdy.

What about Monahan sand hill park? Do they offer riding atvs,utvs,etc there?
Hey Kevin, I don’t see any off-roading options at Monahans Sandhills State Park. That one’s reserved for hiking and horses only it seems.
What about parks similar to Monahan sand park? Any sandy atv parks in Texas I should check out? Or even bordering states?
You should definitely check out the Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka, Oklahoma (https://www.travelok.com/state-parks/little-sahara-state-park). That’s one of the best dune riding spots in the country. Unfortunately, there really aren’t that many places to ride dunes in general, and Texas is no exception.
I’m not from Texas but we will be visiting some of these areas soon, I was wondering if there is any local UTV clubs that I might be able to get some information about trails and maps mailed to us to plan our trip?
