We made another awesome custom build. This time it’s a Polaris Ranger XP 900 that’s lifted and loaded with so much SuperATV goodness that it barely resembles a Ranger anymore. There’s only one make or break part on this build, though, and that’s the frame stiffener.
Sometimes we forget about the “U” in “UTV.” Utility is what these machines are built for and the utility-oriented side-by-sides are the most popular. Why? Because people have work to do. Period. With tons of torque, and huge payload and towing capacities, these machines make it easy to get work done. And they happen to be fun, too.
They all share just one weakness—the frame.
That’s why a good custom build needs to start at the heart of the machine. I’m talking about the frame stiffener. It’s the first accessory you need to change your work UTV into a party wagon. And it’s what made our custom Ranger build possible.
Our Ranger XP 900 build has a 6″ lift, 6″ GDP portals, 34″ Terminator Tires, and Rhino 2.0 axles. Whether the Ranger will buckle or not with all that lift is still up in the air. If it doesn’t bend, we’re in for a whole load of fun and hard riding. But if it does, we’ve got nothing but a bent ranger that doesn’t drive straight.
That’s where the frame stiffener comes in.
That weak front-end frame makes adding all this gear sketchy at best. Big tires cause a ton of your engine torque to transfer directly into the frame. The extra tire weight combined with the weight of the portals and the extra leverage from the longer lift kit A-arms push and pull on the frame every time you hit a rock, branch, or bump. With a frame stiffener installed, you can pile on as much awesome gear as you want and ride how you want.
