We introduced GDP Portals to the world 10 years ago. Since then, tens of thousands of riders have discovered just how impressive they are in every terrain imaginable. But there’s no better place to make great use of portals than in the rock gardens and boulder fields that humble countless riders.

With the perfect combination of ground clearance, torque, and strength, you can see why GDP Portals are such a good choice for the rock crawlers of the world.

What Portals Are

So what is a portal gear lift, and why does it matter for you? Well, part of the answer is in the name: it’s a lift for your UTV or ATV.

But it’s more than that. GDP Portals give you:

  • A lift kit
  • A gear reduction

That’s the perfect combo to truly upgrade your ride. The lift gives you more ground clearance and room for bigger tires, and the gear reduction boosts torque to turn those bigger tires.

It’s the best way to lift your machine, especially for rocks.

Why they Rock at Rocks

Why are GDP Portals so good for rocks?

We covered the ground clearance, tire size, and torque already, and it’s easy to see how those are a perfect fit for rock crawling.

But there’s more to it than that. GDP Portals are super tough, give you extra stability, and let you combine them with other suspension kits.

They’re perfect for rock crawling.

More Ground Clearance

More ground clearance lets you cruise over obstacles without getting hung up. It’s just that simple. That extra ground clearance covers the whole width of the suspension too, not just the center like a traditional suspension lift.

It also lets you run bigger tires. Bigger tires make rocks smaller and easier to climb over.

GDP Portals give you 4”, 6”, or 8” of ground clearance so you can dominate rocks.

More Torque

Extra torque lets you crawl up and over rocks like they’re not even there. Don’t go around it—go right over the top!

GDP Portals let you choose from a range of torque-boosting gear reductions from 15% to 70% that can change the game.

Ideal Width

GDP Portals widen your machine by eight inches total. Why does that matter? More width gives you more stability. That’s ideal when you’re cruising over boulders and don’t want to tip over.

Premium Strength

Rock crawling beats the hell out of your machine. That’s why GDP Portals are designed to be as strong as possible. With everything from billet aluminum portal boxes to advanced steel alloy backing plates and dual-idler gear configurations, everything on GDP Portals is built to be abused.

Combo it!

GDP Portals don’t change your suspension geometry. That’s just a fancy way of saying you can install a standard suspension kit on top of GDP Portals.

Need more ground clearance? Add a lift kit.

Want more width? Add a long travel kit.

Just need bigger tires? Add offset A-arms.

Combining your suspension upgrades will take GDP Portals from amazing to unbelievable.

What’s the Ideal Portal Gear Lift Setup for Rock Crawling?

When it comes to rock crawling on GDP Portals, less is often more. You don’t need a monster truck to get the benefits you need.

That’s why a good starting point for any rock crawler is our 4” portal gear lift with a 30% gear reduction. It’s also a good idea to go with billet aluminum boxes that can stand up to the extreme brutality of rolling through rocks. You should also consider going with our dual-idler configuration to maximize strength.

That setup will give you a good increase in ground clearance and width and bring tons of torque to the table. Your max tire size with 4” portals will vary from machine to machine, but it’ll get many vehicles to the 32”–34” tire range most rock crawlers want.

And remember: you can add a traditional lift kit, long-travel kit, or offset A-arms on top of the GDP Portal Gear Lifts for even more clearance!
