A UTV windshield has to do more than block wind. It has to take hits from rocks and branches, stay clear through miles of brush, fit your cage just right, and not be a hassle to install. That’s why most SuperATV windshields use 1/4-inch polycarbonate and why our hard-coated models use XR Optic Hard Coating on both sides.
SuperATV has glass windshields too, but today we’re talking about what makes our polycarbonate windshields different. We’re covering strength, weight, and hard coating. If you’re trying to figure out if a glass or poly windshield is right for you, check out our Ultimate UTV Windshield Buyer’s Guide.
Let’s get into why we think our polycarbonate windshields are pretty cool.
We started with just a full and a half windshield for a few machines back in July of 2014. Originally, we had them produced in a nearby facility, but we quickly bought our own router so we could cut our own polycarbonate, and we added more windshield styles, like our flip windshield.
Since then, we’ve added more windshield styles like our awesome MaxDrive Power Flip windshields, and we’ve expanded our fitment to include as many makes and models as possible. That means that whether you’re driving a CFMOTO ZForce or a Ranger XD 1500, we’ve got a high-quality windshield for you.
We’ve manufactured and sold well over a million windshields over the years, so we’re confident in our expertise, and you should be too.
Most SuperATV UTV windshields use 1/4-inch polycarbonate because it combines high impact resistance with low weight. Polycarbonate is 250 times more impact resistant than glass and 25 times more than acrylic. It can take most rocks, branches, and trail debris without shattering, yet it weighs about half as much as glass.
That doesn’t make glass a bad choice. Glass offers better scratch resistance and supports windshield wipers. Polycarbonate is the better fit when impact strength and low weight matter most.

The high strength and low weight are a winning combination.
Polycarbonate has a dirty little secret that we’ll let you in on. The same properties that make it strong also make it soft. Plain, untreated polycarbonate scratches more easily than glass and even acrylic. That’s why it’s pretty uncommon to see polycarbonate without a special hard coating to make it more scratch-resistant—it’s necessary for that perfect combination of clarity and strength.
We use our proprietary XR Optic Hard Coating to make our polycarbonate more scratch-resistant. We introduced an improved XR Optic formula in 2025 that is about four times more abrasion-resistant than the previous version. All current hard-coated SuperATV windshields use the new formula.

So when you’re riding down a trail and pushing through bushes and creeks, XR Optic will help keep the crap that hits your windshield from marring, scuffing, or scratching it. It also provides additional UV protection to help prevent sunspots, yellowing, and fading from appearing on your windshield.
A couple of years back, we realized that people expect windshields of all types to be really easy to assemble, even if they’re not. We took it upon ourselves to make that expectation a reality and assemble our windshields as much as possible before boxing them up and shipping them.

It also adds an extra element of quality control to our windshields. Previously, a bolt or bracket could get left out of the box. It was rare, but sometimes that kind of thing just happens, and it would be a big pain for you. Now, since all the parts are installed by our expert assembly team, there’s no opportunity for anything to get left out.
That means a more consistent product and a better experience for you.
Between our full, half, vented, flip-down, flip-up, and rear windshields, we have over 190 windshield applications. So whatever side-by-side you put your butt in, and whatever version of wind in your face you prefer, we’ve got something for you.
How do you know what’s for you? Let’s break it down.
It’s the original—the windshield you think of when you think “UTV windshield.” The full windshield blocks the air coming from the front of your machine. Like all of our windshields, it’s super easy to remove and reinstall for some seasonal versatility, but generally, you want this windshield if you want the wind off of you.
Full windshields also have an interesting effect where air is sucked in through the sides of your cab. Some people don’t mind this—the wind is out of their face after all—but others can’t stand it. This side-cab suction can be alleviated with a rear windshield or doors, though. So it’s not a big deal, just something you should consider when purchasing a windshield.

The half windshield is more awesome than it looks. This little windshield blocks a lot of air. The lip at the top of the windshield does a surprisingly good job of diverting air away from your face. It’s like having an open cab with a force field in front of you.
This one’s perfect for folks who like to ride where it’s warm but don’t want dust or sand in their face. So if you do dunes and desert, definitely give the half windshield a look.
It’s also great for anybody who wants to keep their cab as open as possible and doesn’t ride when it’s frigid out.
Best of all, it’s super light, it’s affordable, and there’s nothing easier to install than a half windshield.

Vented windshields are like full windshields with a vent. Go figure. Most styles use our BreezeRite vents for better airflow control.
BreezeRite vents flip up to open and can be set to half open too. These injection-molded vents stay where you set them to. So even when you’re bouncing down the trail wondering what parts of your suspension are about to break first, your BreezeRite vents will still be doing their job.

Flip windshields are the best of the best. This one is easy to recommend to anyone—if you can afford it, get it. Here’s why:
We have two kinds of flip windshields: the flip-up and the flip-down.
Let’s talk about the flip-up windshield first. It’s the cream of the crop. Most of them have three settings on them, so they can be closed and act like a full windshield, open so they act like a half windshield, or set in between so they act like a vented windshield.
It’s like having three windshields in one, so you can keep it on the machine year-round. They’re good for anyone anywhere. The only reason you wouldn’t want one is if you ride in an exclusively hot or cold climate
One of the best things about our flip-up windshields is that you don’t have to get out of the cab to change positions—you can reach the latching mechanism from your seat, and the powerful gas struts lift the windshield for you and hold it open even when you’re bumping down the trail.
Our MaxDrive Power Flip Windshields offer similar functionality to our manual flip-up windshields. The big difference is that MaxDrive windshields open and close using electronic actuators controlled by a dash-mounted switch. They can be set to any position from fully closed to fully open with minimal effort. Plus, the actuators are tough enough to hold the windshield in place as you ride on bumpy trails.
Flip-down windshields give you similar versatility, though not as much. They’re more old-school—you get a full windshield, or you can push it out and secure it to your hood to get a half windshield.

Don’t forget about rear windshields! If you’re looking for that next level of cab comfort, you’ve got to get a rear windshield. It stops that suction action you get from a full windshield and keeps the rear tire cleanout from getting into the back of your cab.
A rear windshield really completes your cab.

Glass trades some impact strength and low weight for maximum scratch resistance, automotive-style clarity, and wiper compatibility. Some machines now have both full glass and MaxDrive Power Flip Glass options. Read our glass vs. polycarbonate windshield comparison to see which material fits your ride.
With the biggest selection of windshields you’ll find anywhere, we’re pretty confident we’ve got the windshield for your vehicle and riding conditions. Plus, they’re all made and assembled right here at our facility in Madison, Indiana.
No matter what you get, you’re getting quality.

Transporting 500 miles at interstate now at speeds……can it handle it?
Hey Tom! Yes, as long as it’s loaded facing forward, you shouldn’t have any issues. Thanks for reading!
I just purchased and installed the flip down windshield on my teryx le that Velcro’s to the roll cage. It says not to tow on open air trailer. Didn’t realize this when purchased. So I’m hoping this is not gone be an issue and I can tow woth it installed and if so do I close the windshield or tow it with the windshield flipped down in the open position?
Hey Colby, thanks for tuning in! Ideally, when loading your trailer, the best practice is either forward and windshield closed or backward and windshield open. Thanks for the support!
I must have gotten a windshield that was produced and shipped out before you started assembling them. My issue is that the pre-drilled holes for the top mounting bracket are drilled in the wrong location. I didn’t find this out until I was trying to install it out at deer camp last October. I already assembled the windshield and attached the gasket only to find out that the holes to mount the windshield are not pre-drilled. At least that’s what it appeared so I put it back in the box and brought it back home with me. Now; I am getting my first chance to go back and look at it. I wanted to make sure we had not missed something out there at camp and I didn’t have a drill with me so I couldn’t attempt to fix the issue out there anyway. Today, I took it back apart and discovered there are pre-drilled holes but, they are pre-drilled in the wrong location. They are about two inches off on both sides drilled further towards the inside than they need to be. My concern is how to I put the correct holes in as the are slotted for some adjustability, and I am worried about cracking the poly since I have to drill within a 1/2 inch of the edge of the poly and try to create this oval slotted shape. Are you able to help with this or maybe exchange it for me. I can send pics that show the holes are in the wrong location and that I haven’t even taken the protective sheeting off the window. I only peeled it back enough to mount the upper and lower brackets.
Thanks for tuning in, Gerald! In order to get you squared away, we’ll need your order info and some pictures. If you want to give us a call at 855-743-3247 and make sure you’ve got your order info ready, we would be more than happy to help!
I load my 2020 Honda 1000×4 backwards on our open air trailer. My windshield just arrived and I took the windshield out of the box and everything looks great. The instructions say not to transport with it on. This will not work for me unless you indicate I will be fine by leaving it on. Want to keep but don’t want it to break. Thoughts?
Hey Bob, glad to hear you got a SuperATV windshield! I assume you’ve got one that is not Velcro and easily removable, so as long as everything’s tightened, you should be alright. I would suggest if you’ve got a flip windshield, bungee from the latch just to make sure it won’t flip up while you’re driving at higher speeds. You should be fine, but just to be on the safe side, that would be my recommendation. We appreciate the support!
How fast can you travel with a flip up windshield in the up and vent position?
Hey Tom, you can travel at the typical top speed of the machine you’re in, but we wouldn’t recommend towing in the vented position. Thanks for reading!
Just purchased your windshield for my 2009 RZR, Installed easily as directed. However the windshield is so cloudy it is very difficult to see changes in terrain. We have to stick our heads out the side of the window to see where we are going,
Should it be that way? Is the scratch resistant windshield any clearer?
Hi Patrick, there could be a number of factors here. If vision is cloudy, that typically is a result of using a chemical-based cleaner which we do not recommend. On the other hand, if it is more scratches, with the standard non-hardcoated windshields, you will get scratches earlier on than you will with our coated windshields. Our hardcoated scratch-resistant windshields do make the difference as the upgraded version. Thanks for the support!
You can polish the uncoated poly with a duel action polisher and and auto compound and polish. The da buffers, like the g9 that autozone sells, are easy and safe to use unlike a rotary polisher.
If it is bad you can use the griots complete correcting cream then you may or may not need a finishing polish.
Then I would put a coat of griots spray ceramic wax on it and ONLY USE SOFT PLUSH MICRO FIBER RAGS TO CLEAN IT WITH GRIOTS SPEED SHINE.
I like Griots garage products if you didn’t notice.
can i put a windshield wiper on your scratch resitant windshield
Hey Randy, that’s a great question. It would be fine for just water, but as soon as it wipes with mud or dirt or anything, it could scratch the material. We would not recommend adding a wiper to any poly material windshield. Thank you for reading!
Do you make any kind of flip up windshield for a 2020 Ranger crew 1000 with the ride command package?
Hey Eric, unfortunately we do not. Thanks for tuning in!
Can you get replacement shocks for the flip windshield.
Hey Tamara, give us a call and we’ll get you some replacements: 855-743-3427. Thanks for the support!
I have 2014 Can am Mavrick xxc and I have a two pc flip up windshield and was wondering if you would just sale the upper half. The last ride I had a branch between the top and the windshield and got a bad crack. It was all most a new windshield.
Hi Steve, thanks for tuning in! Give us a call at 855-743-3427 and we should be able to get you squared away.
If you had to get light scratches out of it what would you use. Also what do you recommend to clean it while on the trail and do recommend added something to protect it. Thank
Hey Karl, thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, there isn’t really a way to get rid of scratches once they’re there. It’s a matter of cleaning them the right way to prevent scratching. Check out our article talking about how to care for your polycarbonate windshield: https://www.superatv.com/offroad-atlas/how-to-clean-and-care-for-your-polycarbonate-windshield/ Thanks for the support!
Is there any way to fix scratches in my flip-up windshield?
If I tow my Talon backward on an open trailer, would it be better to have the windshield open when towing (i normal trailer the Talon forward with the windshield closed)?
Is there a coating I can put on the windshield to help keep dirty water from sticking to the windshield?
Hey John, thanks for reading! 1) No, unfortunately there is not a remedy for fixing scratches once they are there. 2) Ideally, when loading your trailer, the best practice is either forward and windshield closed or backward and windshield open. 3) We have not tested adding coating after install; however, we have read on forums that people have had luck with different remedies of RainX and even furniture polish. I’d recommend doing more research before trying. Unfortunately, if you don’t have our XR Optic Hard Coated windshield (and even with this), cleaning properly is highly important to prevent wear. Hopefully this helps. We appreciate the support!
Is there a way to prevent the window from becoming foggy after going through puddles/standing water? I have this issue both inside and out on my CF MOTO UFORCE. It has become quite the nuisance as the temperatures here in Minnesota have dropped to freezing.
Hey Richard, we’ve seen where people will use furniture polish. This is not something that we have tested, so we typically will not recommend a guaranteed fix. Unfortunately, this fog is the steam coming from your radiator. It is something that happens to both poly and glass windshields.
Is it ok to put rainx on this windshield?
Hey Kevin, we do not recommend anything other than water and a light dish soap. Check out our article on how to clean your windshield: https://www.superatv.com/offroad-atlas/how-to-clean-and-care-for-your-polycarbonate-windshield/ Thanks for the support!
Like to have a little vent work on a rear windshield for a Honda Talon 1000R. Super dark tint. Can you help me out here? Thanks for your time.
Hey Jim, thanks for tuning in! Unfortunately, we don’t do modifications. However, we do offer a dark tinted rear windshield if you are interested: https://www.superatv.com/honda-talon-1000-rear-windshield. We appreciate the support!
Can I get a telephone number to speak with someone
Sure thing! Give us a call at 855-743-3427. Thanks for the support!
Just got my 2021 Polaris 570 midsize Ranger. Windsheild is a full lift poly . There appears to be no seal along the bottom edge. I can see daylight along the edge and there arexlarge openings at both lower corners. The windsheild was installed by the dealer. Did they leave something out? It is really drafty at speed.
T
Hey Vern, it sounds like they may have left out the bulb seal that goes along the bottom. You might check back with them and see if that’s the case. If you aren’t able to get one, give us a call at 855-743-3427 and we should be able to get you hooked up. Thank you for the support!
I ride in Arizona and there is a lot of dust. My older poly windshield seems to have a charge to it and the dust sticks to it. Can iI wipe off that dust with a dry cloth on your new scratch resistant flip up windshield.
Thanks for checking in! We break down our recommendations on how to best clean polycarbonate windshields in this article: https://www.superatv.com/offroad-atlas/how-to-clean-and-care-for-your-polycarbonate-windshield/ Check it out! We appreciate the support!
I have left and right mirrors do you make windshield for that?
Hey Ron, thanks for tuning in! We’ll need to know a couple of things before confirming. What machine do you own and what mirrors have you added?
The directions on the Poly full window show to apply the seal around the entire window, but if you do this the mounting brackets dont fit. I eventually had to cut slots in the seal for the bracket (velcro adapters) to seat corrrectly on the window. Your video shows that you only seal the bottom of the windshield, if this is correct, then why does it come with enough seal material to do the entire diameter of the windshield? Rear window video shows a complete seal, so the brackets must be different.
Hey Guy, thanks for reaching out. Can you tell us what machine you bought the windshield for? Thanks!
I purchased a flip up windshield from you for my 2021 CFMOTO ZFORCE 950, and it was awesome that it arrived in 2 days. However, after making sure everything was there for the install and shape of windshield was correct I attempted the install and after 3 hours of trying everything to make this fit/. there is no way (even though the shape on windshield is correct) this is the correct windshield. The holes at the top (after removing the bolt for the roof) where It is suppose to bolt to the top of cage, are in the wrong spots and the windshield would not make it to the top where it’s supposed to bolt to,anyways, because if you did push it to the top, you ‘d never be able to
clamp to the cage because it would be where it get’s thicker and wouldn’t clamp. before purchasing this I did read a review where another customer (with a cfmoto zforce 950 had the same problem with a wrong windshield. Are there 2 different part numbers for this? I need to talk to someone about this. Hope you make it right for me as you did for him.
Hey Sean, I’m not sure what’s going on. If you could reach out to us at sales@superatv.com with some images of what you’re looking at, we can get you taken care of. Just make sure to provide the info you have here so they know what you’re after. Sorry about the trouble. We’ll get you worked out. Thanks!
I’ve read through the site and comments, but can’t tell if SuperATV makes/sells a Flip-Up Vent Windshield compatible to my 2020 John Deere 835XUV Gator? Hope so. If so, how much $$$? Thanks for the consideration and your reply.
Hey Bill! We sure do have a flip windshield for this machine. Check out the listing here: https://www.superatv.com/john-deere-gator-xuv-835-scratch-resistant-flip-windshield Thanks for checking in with us!
Will your flip open windshield work with the EMP metal top? 2016 Can Am XD S Turbo. Thanks
Hey Kyle! Unfortunately, we have not tested this with other aftermarket tops, so we cannot say for certain that it would work. You may check the forums and see if others have had the same question. Thanks for the support!
We recently purchased a Honda 520 that has a flip windshield. We opened the windshield all of the way but we can’t get it to close. The gas struts seem to be stuck. What do we need to do to lower the windshield?
Hey, Don! Not sure I’ve ever heard of this happening with our windshields before. If it’s a SuperATV windshield, you can give us a call at 855-743-3427 and we can get you some replacements. Thanks for checking in!
how to clean and care for your new window? still looking! starting to loose faith in this company.
Hey Donald, we actually have an article explaining this exact process. Check it out: https://www.superatv.com/offroad-atlas/how-to-clean-and-care-for-your-polycarbonate-windshield/ Thanks for reaching out!
I have a 2019 hona talon 1000R with the 3in1 can I use mirrors that are clamped on the a pillar ?
Hey Greg! The windshield should still close with the side-view mirrors installed, but the bulb won’t be quite as tightly sealed where the clamps are by doing this. Thanks for checking in!
Own a 2021 Polaris 1000 crew. Purchased 3N1 windshield. Install went well but after a few opening and closing the the clamp on the drivers side would pop open even just sitting still. I switched out the passenger side clamp with the drivers side and it popped open on the passenger side . So it seems I have a faulty clamp!
Hey Ralph. I’m sorry to hear that. Give our team a call at 855-743-3427 and we’ll try to get you squared away!
As soon as I get the UTV back from routine maintance Iwill call you.
Sounds great!
Good Morning,
So if I go with the better windshield that has the extra protective coating I can put a wiper on it?
Thanks,
Al
Hey Al, the only windshield that is compatible with a wiper is our glass windshields. Our polycarbonate windshields are the ones that are coated with our proprietary hard coating. Unfortunately, no matter what coating you add to your plastic windshield, the plastic construction will still not be able to resist scratches from a wiper blade. Thanks for checking in with us!
I recently purchased the Scratch Resistant Flip Windshield for my 2022 Honda Pioneer 520. I had my Honda Dealer perform the install and found out too late that once installed, you have to remove the lower portion of the windshield to gain access to the hood. This should be noted in its advertisement. I suggest that the product be redesigned with easy to remove on/off clips to allow hood access by the owner.
Hey Peter, we appreciate the feedback. I spent some time reaching out to our development team, and you are correct. It does appear that with the frame of the Pioneer 500 and 520, we were unable to achieve maximum coverage when following the contours of this machine. We will be adding a note for this to our listings. Again, we appreciate the support and you reaching out. I have passed this onto our team.
do your Flip up windshields listed for Honda Pioneer 1000-5 fit the new 2022 Pioneer 1005?
Hey Bob. It sure does! The only thing it doesn’t work with is this OEM roof: http://shop.powersports.honda.com/p/hard-roof-2
Here’s our flip windshield listing for more info: https://www.superatv.com/honda-pioneer-1000-scratch-resistant-flip-windshield
Thanks for reading!
I’m getting conflicting answers about the SuperATV Rear Vented Windshield for 2016+ Polaris General 1000 | 2017+ Polaris General 4 | USA Made | Made of 1/4” Polycarbonate- 250x Stronger Than Glass | BreezeRite Vent Gives Three Vent Positions. SKU : RWS-P-GEN1K-V-76# I ask if this has a scratch resident coating the answer was it doesn’t! But the above article says, We use our proprietary XR Optic Hard Coating to make our polycarbonate more scratch resistant than acrylic and nearly as scratch resistant as glass. So maybe someone can clear this up for me cause it’s a little confusing. Also can you look into the fitment for a 2023 Polaris General XP 1000 Premium (no rear speakers).
Hey Ronald, the rear vented windshield for the Polaris General is NOT hard coated. Sorry for the confusion. We’ll have to touch up that section to make sure it’s not so misleading. And our fitment team confirmed that this windshield should fit a 2023 Polaris General XP 1000 Premium. Thanks for reading!
Purchased a flip up windshield for my 2017 midsize Ranger a little over a year ago. I have been very careful not to use anything but water and a soft cloth for cleaning. The windshield has “fogged” and you cannot see clearly. I called about a replacement for the windshield and was told the price, almost as much as a complete unit. I am not happy! I would not buy again.
Hey Larry, that sucks. I’d be just as frustrated as you are. But that really shouldn’t happen with just water. Are you sure nobody else washed it with ammonia or alcohol or some other harsh chemical? It doesn’t matter if you get a polycarbonate windshield from us or anyone else, the raw poly is virtually identical across the board. You’ll need to find out what happened with this windshield if you don’t want it to happen again. Or maybe you’d be better served by a glass windshield that can handle just about anything you throw at it (apart from rocks).
I can assure you the windshield has not had any type cleaner or chemical on it. I am the only one that cleans it. I would like it replaced.
Do you have an order number? If not, can you tell me where you bought your windshield?
I purchased this product off Amazon.
Hey Larry, I’m working with our customer service. Someone should be reaching out.
YAMAHA WOLVERINE RMAX MAXDRIVE POWER FLIP WINDSHIELD
SKU : PFWS-Y-RMAX-70
Hi,
in case of electric failure, can the windshield still be opened and closed?
Hey Andrea, you cannot open and close the windshield without power. The same thing that makes the actuators so tough prevents them from moving without using a rocker switch. Thanks for the question.
I have not heard back from anyone.
Check your Amazon account. A member of our customer service team reached out to you there.
No message in Amazon account as of today.
Never heard from Amazon or you again! Still have a fogged windshield. Would not buy again for sure.
Really love the design of the flip out windshield with gas shocks… had one on my 2017 Yamaha wolverine and would love to purchase one for my 2023 wolverine x2 850 but one has not been made yet… only ones for the rmax… please if anyone on here can help get these in production that would be great.
Hey Mike! That one’s already on our list! No ETA at the moment. Could be 6 months, could be 18 months, but it’s working its way through the new product development process right now.
so maybe you can confirm this for me, I read a few comments on different sites saying the one you make for the rmax will fit the 850. although the rmax is about 4 inches wider overall some are telling me the cabin space and roll bars are the same. Is this true?
Looks like we’ve had some guys looking into that recently. We’ve seen a lot of mixed reports from customers, so we’re working on getting a new X2 in here to try it on for ourselves. Odds are that it fits just fine, and there are just a few people struggling, but it could be more complicated than that. Sorry I can’t be more definitive than that.
Was putting flip-up windshield on 2024 Kawasaki krx. When I mounted lower portion in place, I noticed there is no way to open glove compartment on dash. That is where all usb and all other ports are. was not noted anywhere on website that this will happen.
Hi Rick—please get in touch with customer service ASAP to get this figured out. You’ll want to have your order number handy for the fastest service!

We just upgraded machines to a 2020 CanAm Maverick X3 and we will once again need to replace the beat-up full windshield. We are looking to go with a flip-up windshield once again. However, on our last one we purchased, the top kept slamming shut while on the trails.
We purchased the flip=up from Super ATV in late 2019-early 2020 time frame.
Can you tell me if this is still an issue with your shields? or is there a recommended model of windshield to go with, to prevent this issue?
The constant slamming shut gets annoying quick lol
Thanks!
I just purchased your flip windshield for my 2020 Kawasaki krx 1000. However, I have not been able to get the gas struts to release. Is there some issue with locked struts or am I just not understanding how to get them to release?

Hi! Can the flip up windshield for a 2020 Honda Pioneet 700-4 be operated with one hand?
Hey Jim,
Yes, you should be able to use it with one hand!
