What’s up, guys? Braden here with Super ATV. Today, we’re going to show you how to install Super ATV’s power flip windshield on this Kawasaki Teryx 4. Let’s get started.
Once you remove all the contents of your packaging from Super ATV, take the windshield out and lay it up on the cage to ensure it fits properly. After confirming the fit, gather your tools and seals for the installation. The tools you’ll need include a T40 Torx, a T25 Torx, scissors, and wire strippers.
The first seal you need is the bulb seal. Ensure the bulb portion faces towards the inside of the machine. The way we have the windshield laid out now, this is the outside facing up and the inside facing down.
Applying the Upper Bulb Seal: Start by applying the bulb seal on the upper portion of the windshield. Peel back the protective film on the top and bottom of the windshield to avoid pinching it in between the seal. Apply the seal with the bulb facing down. Once you get to the end, cut off the excess.
Applying the Lower Bulb Seal: Next, apply the bulb seal to the lower portion of the windshield. Start from the top edge and run it all the way down, ensuring the bulb faces towards the inside. Cut off the excess at the end.
Repeating on the Opposite Side: Repeat the same steps on the opposite side of the windshield to ensure a consistent seal.
Applying the Straight Seals: Now, grab the straight seal and apply it to the bottom edge of the windshield. Start in the corner pocket and run it all the way across to the opposite side, then cut off the excess. Finally, apply the last piece of straight seal to the top edge of the windshield in the same manner.
Applying the D-Seal: Flip the upper portion of the windshield up to reveal the lip. Apply the D-seal all the way across this lip, ensuring it is fully seated, then cut off the excess.
Lay out all your brackets and actuators on a table. Begin with the passenger side bracket. The passenger side bracket should have a flat section that bends inward with a rounded edge. Attach the clamps to the bracket using the provided eight-millimeter Allen-headed bolts. Install the side brackets and actuators, ensuring the bushings are in place. Hand-tighten all hardware for now. Repeat the process for the driver side bracket. Make sure the bends face inward. Attach the clamps, side brackets, and actuators as done on the passenger side.
Actuator Installation: Install the bushings into both sides of the actuator. Position the actuator so the wire and reservoir face up. Slide the shoulder bolt with a six-millimeter washer through the bracket and actuator, securing it with a five-millimeter flat washer and Nylock nut. Hand-tighten all hardware.
Remove the hardware from the clamps and slide the assembly onto the cage. Position the assembly on the cage and reinstall the hardware loosely to hold everything in place. Adjust the clamps to ensure proper fit, aiming for the top of the clamp to lay about midway up the cage. Repeat these steps on both the driver and passenger sides.
Lay the windshield onto the dash and adjust the clamps until the provided hardware threads directly into them. Adjust the height and rotation of the clamps to avoid gaps. Hand-tighten the top hardware to secure the windshield in place.
Remove the hood and fuse panel cover to access the wiring areas. Start by routing the rocker switch plug into the driver’s side pocket behind the dash. Remove the dash bezel to access the harness. Route the wires to the actuators on both sides, making the necessary connections.
Connecting Power Wires: Strip the coating off the hot and ground wires and connect them using the provided connectors. Plug the harness into the factory Kawasaki harness under the fuse panel cover.
Managing Excess Wire: Bundle any excess wire neatly, ensuring not to cinch the zip ties too tightly. Feed the wires back underneath the dash to keep them tidy.
Feed the rocker switch connector through the dash bezel and connect it to the harness. Ensure the switch says “open” on top and “close” on the bottom. Insert the switch into the bezel and secure the bezel back in place. Perform a quick test to ensure everything functions correctly.
Install bushings into the lower portion of the actuators. Attach the actuators to the windshield using shoulder bolts, washers, and Nylock nuts. Repeat the process for both sides, ensuring everything is securely fastened.
Test the windshield to ensure it operates smoothly. Fully tighten all hardware, including clamp brackets and actuator brackets. Use zip ties to secure the actuator wires to the cage, avoiding over-tightening. Tuck away any excess wiring for a clean finish. Reinstall the hood, fuse panel, and any other accessories removed during the installation.
As you saw earlier in the video, having a helping hand is almost a necessity, especially for positioning the windshield and securing the hardware.
