Braden from SuperATV kicks off the video by introducing the product and the machine. In this tutorial, he will show you how to install the SuperATV soft top roof on a Can-Am Maverick X3. This roof is designed to provide overhead protection from sun, light rain, and trail debris, while maintaining breathability and the open-cab feel of the X3. It’s a simple and affordable way to upgrade your ride without a full hard roof install.
Before installing the roof, it’s essential to prep the roll cage to ensure the hook-and-loop fasteners adhere properly. Use 90% isopropyl alcohol or a 50/50 mix of alcohol and water. Apply it to a clean rag and thoroughly wipe down the areas of the cage where the hook-and-loop tape will be applied—this includes both the front and rear roof bar sections. Removing all dirt, dust, and grease from the cage ensures a strong bond between the roof straps and the cage.
Next, take the included hook-and-loop fastener strips and begin applying them to the front roll bar. Lay one strip across the top, running from one side of the cage to the other. Trim it to fit as needed using scissors or a utility knife. Repeat this process for the rear roll bar. You’ll also want to cut smaller matching strips to apply along both the front and rear lower side cage tubes. These fasteners help anchor the soft roof firmly in place, preventing flapping and wind movement.
Once the adhesive strips are in place, begin installing the roof straps. Loop each strap around the front roll cage tube, feed the end through the sewn loop, and pull tight to cinch it securely. Move to the rear of the machine and loop the straps around the cage just below the rear gusset. This mounting location offers extra stability and ensures that the roof won’t shift under tension. Repeat these steps for the opposite side of the machine to prepare both sides for the main roof panel.
Now, gently lay the soft roof panel on top of the vehicle. Start by centering the roof from side to side, then align it from front to back, making sure the roof contours match the cage shape. It’s normal for the roof to shift slightly at this stage. Don’t worry about perfect fitment just yet—you’ll fine-tune the positioning after the straps and hook-and-loop attachments are in place.
Begin securing the roof by loosely attaching the side straps. Work from one side of the vehicle to the other, feeding the straps through the sewn loops and buckles provided. Because soft accessories require a bit of manipulation, expect some trial and error as you align the roof. Adjust and tighten each strap incrementally, but avoid over-tightening too early—you’ll want some slack while positioning the roof for best fit and coverage.
To fully secure the soft roof, feed the straps through the buckles as shown in the video. The pull tab should sit on top so it’s easy to reach when tightening. Once the strap is through the buckle, wrap the remaining section around the roll cage tube and thread it back through to create a strong hold. Pull firmly downward to create tension and eliminate sagging in the roof. Braden suggests leaving the straps slightly loose during this step until all corners are secured. Make sure straps are wrapped around gussets or solid mounting points to prevent sliding.
Now that all four straps are in place, take time to make final adjustments. Smooth out any wrinkles in the fabric and adjust strap tension to achieve a snug, symmetrical fit. Center the roof on the vehicle and verify that the hook-and-loop fasteners are properly aligned and attached. If you notice any sagging or misalignment, reposition the straps or reapply the adhesive fasteners as needed for a tight, finished appearance.
Braden notes that the installation may differ slightly depending on your existing setup. If your Maverick X3 is equipped with a front windshield, rear windshield, or full cab enclosure, you may need to modify the install slightly. This could involve moving the hook-and-loop strips or repositioning the straps to avoid interference. Fortunately, the soft roof is flexible and universal enough to work with most aftermarket and OEM accessories. Just ensure that everything fits snugly around your existing setup, and feel free to reposition components to get the best fit.
With the roof in position and all straps adjusted, perform a final tightening pass to ensure everything is secure. Make sure the straps are positioned outside the roof fabric, especially if you are running a windshield, to avoid pinching or interference. The SuperATV soft roof is designed to work with a wide variety of accessories, and everything needed for a clean, professional install is included in the kit. Once secured, you’re ready to hit the trails with added protection and comfort.
