Are you tired of your friends having to pull you out whenever you get stuck? Well, Super ATV has got the fix with our Black Ops line of winches. Today we’re going to show you how to get one installed on this Honda Pioneer 1000. Let’s get to it!

Removing the Hood and Front Bumper (0:18)

The first thing we’re going to do is go ahead and remove the hood from the machine. Just grab ahold of the tabs, twist them off, and remove it. Set it aside. If you have a factory front bumper, go ahead and remove it as well. We’ve already loosened our hardware, but you’ll want to remove the Allen-headed screw and the bolt that goes through the frame. Do this for both sides, as the hardware will be in the same exact location on the opposite side. Once you’ve removed all your hardware, just go ahead and remove your bumper. It will slide right out. Set it aside.

Removing the Door and Fender (1:17)

Now we’re going to go ahead and remove the four 10mm bolts securing the door to the machine. Once the door is removed, go through and remove all the pushpins securing the fender to the machine. After all the pushpins are removed, go ahead and remove the fender.

Removing Differential Bolts and Installing Bracket (2:15)

The next step is to go ahead and remove the two lower bolts that secure the differential to the frame, as well as the two upper bolts. We’ve already removed the two upper bolts. Now, remove the lower two bolts. Grab the bracket provided in the kit and install it to the frame of the machine using the M10x1.25 bolts. Ensure the holes with the slots for adjustment are facing down. Leave these bolts loose enough to allow for adjustment later.

Installing Winch Mount Plate (3:10)

Take the winch mount plate, ensuring the curved portion is facing up with the slotted holes and the four holes for the winch down towards the bottom. Slide it into place. Once positioned, go ahead and fully tighten the lower bracket bolts. Then, take the M10 hardware with nylock nuts and secure the winch mount plate, ensuring everything is lined up correctly. Fully tighten all the hardware.

Installing the Winch (5:01)

Grab your winch from the kit and the provided bolts, which come with flat and lock washers. Line the winch up with the holes on the mount plate and start threading the bolts. Once all bolts are started, go ahead and fully tighten them.

Installing the Solenoid (6:09)

Grab the solenoid from the winch kit and find a suitable place to mount it. We decided to install it right here for ease of access. Drill holes through the plastic to secure the solenoid. Use the provided screws and washers to secure the solenoid in place.

Feeding Wires to the Winch (8:04)

Feed the wires down to the winch through the hole near the solenoid. Ensure the wires are routed cleanly and avoid any hoses or obstacles. Connect the yellow and blue wires to the corresponding posts on the winch, ensuring you have enough slack to make secure connections. If needed, cut down the wires to the appropriate length and add heat shrink to the connections for protection.

Connecting Wires to the Solenoid (10:40)

Attach the yellow and blue wires to the solenoid, matching the colors to the corresponding posts. Do not fully tighten the connections yet. Next, grab the black and red wires and attach them to the battery, routing them cleanly behind the battery and connecting them to the appropriate posts on the solenoid. Ensure you cut down the wires to the correct length if needed and add insulators to prevent any arcing.

Installing Rocker Switch (16:25)

Decide on the location for the rocker switch on the dash. Measure 35mm up and 21mm across, then cut a slot into the dash using a heated blade for easier cutting. Clean up the hole and feed the wire through, ensuring a good fit. Route the wire behind the power steering bracket and through to the solenoid, making a clean connection.

Connecting to Key-On Power Source (18:42)

Locate a key-on power source. We tapped into the wire on the backside of the 12-volt outlet on the dash, connecting the red wire from the harness to the white wire. Pull any excess wiring back, tidy it up with zip ties, and make a clean connection to the key-on power source.

Finalizing Winch Installation (24:44)

With all wires routed and connected, install the insulators on the winch connections and fully tighten all hardware. Reinstall the bumper, ensuring the winch rope is fed through the fairlead. Secure the bumper with factory bolts and ensure everything is tightened properly.

Installing the Stop Block and Clevis Hook (25:54)

Install the stop block using the provided Allen head screws, flat washers, and nylock nuts. Ensure the open end is facing away from the machine. Then, install the clevis hook by removing the cotter pin, sliding the hook onto the winch rope, and securing it with the pin and cotter pin.

Testing the Winch and Remote (27:14)

Turn the key on to check that the rocker switch illuminates, and the winch operates correctly. To use the remote, remove the tab from the battery compartment, hold down both buttons until the red indicator light appears, and test the winch operation.

Conclusion [27:44]
