[0:00] Introduction

Braden from SuperATV introduces the project: installing a heavy-duty aluminum roof on a CFMOTO UForce 1000 XL. This roof adds rugged style and protection from the elements, giving riders a clean, factory-grade look with durable off-road functionality. Follow along for step-by-step guidance from unboxing to final bolt.

[0:35] Step 1: Sealing the Roof Panel Seams

The SuperATV roof is made up of four separate panels. Start with the rear mid-panel and identify the top-facing lip where it will connect to the other panels. Apply the included seal strip to each lip to create a weatherproof seal between the panels. Begin at one end and run the strip across the length of the roof section. Make sure to press firmly to ensure good adhesion. When you reach the opposite end, trim or tear off the excess. Repeat this same process for the second mid-panel and then apply another strip to the front panel, where it will join the others. These seal strips help reduce noise and prevent water or dust from getting between roof sections.

[6:22] Step 2: Opening Bolt Holes in the Seals

After all seal strips are applied, you’ll notice they cover up the hardware mounting holes. Use a straight pick to locate each hole and gently puncture the seal at every point where hardware will go. This ensures a clean, accurate opening for the bolts and prevents misalignment during installation. This step is critical for ease of assembly when adding barrel bolts to secure the roof sections together.

[6:45] Step 3: Installing Barrel Bolts to Connect Roof Sections

Next, grab your barrel bolts and lock washers. Each barrel bolt has two parts—a threaded insert and a threaded screw. Orient them so the sealed end faces outward when installed. Because the roof is currently upside down, insert the threaded piece from the top side down. Begin by loosely installing a few barrel bolts without lock washers to help pull the roof sections together and align them. Once the pieces are drawn together, remove those bolts one at a time, add lock washers, and reinstall. Use a 3 mm Allen wrench and a 3 mm Allen socket to tighten the hardware. You’ll be installing bolts in alternating fashion (e.g., bolt-skip-bolt) to evenly pull the panels tight without warping.

[10:16] Step 4: Installing Foam Weatherstripping to the Cage

Before placing the roof on the machine, install foam weatherstripping to the frame to help absorb vibration and eliminate metal-on-metal contact. Start with a strip across the front roll bar, just under the windshield mounting bolts. Apply the strip straight across and tear or trim the excess at the end. Then, run foam strips along both side cage tubes, starting from the front crossbar and working all the way to the back of the machine. Press the foam firmly to the tube and trim off any extra length once you reach the end. This step improves the seal and prevents squeaks or rattling during rides.

[13:35] Step 5: Placing the Roof on the Machine

With your cage prepped and roof assembled, it’s time to lift the roof onto the machine. Braden recommends having a second person help with this step, as the roof is large and can be difficult to maneuver solo. Carefully place the roof on top of the machine, aligning it with the foam-covered cage frame. Ensure all mounting holes in the roof align with the frame tabs and mounting points.

[13:52] Step 6: Installing Primary Roof Hardware

Start installing the roof using M6x40 mm bolts, ¾-inch spacers, large sealing washers, and Nylock nuts. Insert each bolt from the top of the roof, with the spacer sitting between the roof and the frame. Secure each one underneath the frame with a Nylock nut. Begin by installing three of these fasteners through the main mounting holes and tighten them just enough to hold the roof in place. Then, install the M6x35 mm bolts and ½-inch spacers in the secondary mounting holes, using the same technique. Align the spacer first, then insert the bolt from the top and tighten it with a Nylock nut underneath.

[15:59] Step 7: Securing the Roof with Clamps

Next, use the supplied clamps to reinforce the roof-to-cage connection. Each clamp uses an M6x40 mm bolt, a 5/8-inch spacer, and a Nylock nut. Be sure to measure your spacers, as they are very close in size. Drop the bolt and spacer through the pre-drilled roof hole, then slide the clamp onto the threads and wrap it around the cage tube. Align the clamp’s opposite hole and thread on the Nylock nut. This step locks the roof down securely. Repeat this process at all clamp locations for even, rattle-free support.

[17:52] Step 8: Installing Rear Roof Support Brackets

To provide added support and mounting points for rear accessories, install the rear roof brackets. Use M6x20 mm bolts with large sealing washers and Nylock nuts. Drop the bolt through the roof, line up the bracket underneath, and thread the nut on to loosely hold the bracket in place. Then, attach the clamp to the bracket using the provided Allen screw. Don’t fully tighten yet—repeat on the opposite side first to make sure everything is centered. Once aligned, finish tightening both bracket assemblies.

[19:19] Step 9: Rear Windshield Bracket Preparation

If you’re installing a rear windshield, now is the time to attach the rear windshield brackets. Use the supplied M6x16 mm bolts to fasten the brackets to the factory-threaded holes in the cage, underneath the rear edge of the roof. Every windshield design is a little different, so you may need to adjust bracket placement to fit your specific setup. In this install, the windshield step is skipped, but bracket install instructions are demonstrated.

[20:07] Final Step

Now that the roof is fully installed, go back and tighten all hardware, including clamps, brackets, and frame fasteners. Make sure everything is evenly torqued and secure. With your new SuperATV aluminum roof installed, your CFMOTO UForce 1000 XL is better equipped for rugged conditions, trail debris, and unpredictable weather.
