There are better UTV/ATV storage solutions than milk crates and bungee cords. Our guide to cargo storage will help you pick the best option for your ATV or UTV.

Sure, you could throw all of your gear into the bed of your side-by-side. But there’s no guarantee it will still be there when you stop. A cargo box will keep everything safe and dry.

Choosing the Right Storage Option

Choosing the right ATV or UTV storage option can make the difference between a great day on the trail and a total disaster.

Get prepared with these ATV and UTV storage box ideas from SuperATV.

Best UTV Cargo Storage

Some UTVs are more prepared for moving cargo around than others—think Kawasaki Mule, Polaris Ranger, CFMOTO UForce, Can-Am Defender, and other truck-style machines.

These utility vehicles may not seem like they need help in the cargo department, but our UTV cargo storage options will help you get more out of your machine.

Bed Rack Delta

To get the most out of your utility machine, you need an over-bed rack that’s build to work. Image by SuperATV

The Bed Rack Delta isn’t your traditional over-bed rack. The sides include handy MOLLE panels to make use of every inch of space.

With a 150-pound weight limit, you can really load it up with gear. Whether you’re planning a weekend ride or a long workday, this bed rack helps you pack even more cargo into your utility machine.

In-Bed Gun Rack

Lots of people use their side-by-sides for hunting. Our In-Bed Gun Rack can hold up to four long guns or crossbows—a whole personal arsenal.

You’ll be prepared for every type of hunt with this UTV cargo solution. And it’s perfect for sporting clays too.

Hood Rack Charlie

The Hood Rack Charlie makes use of the space over your hood to take advantage of every square inch of possible storage space.

The slotted side panels and base provide tons of latching points and prevent water from pooling.

Its 250-pound weight limit makes it the perfect spot to store all types of cargo. Camping trip? Great. Hunting excursion? Perfect. Long workday on the farm? Even better.

Cooler/Cargo Box

Our Cooler/Cargo Box is a great choice for your utility or sport UTV. It works double time as a cooler or a cargo box.

Fill it with ice to keep your drinks cool. It seals tightly to keep water, mud, and dust out, making it the perfect spot to store a fresh change of clothes or the toilet paper you’d rather keep dry.

Outfitter Sport Roof Rack

But sport side-by-sides like the Can-Am Maverick, CFMOTO ZForce, Kawasaki Teryx, and Polaris RZR are a totally different breed. They’re made with hardly in built-in storage at all.

The limited space makes it important to think creatively about where you can carry more cargo. Our Outfitter Sport Roof Rack is designed to make the most of the unused space on your machine’s roof.

The slotted sides include tons of latching points, making it the perfect spot to store virtually any kind of UTV cargo. Depending on your model, you can add up to 14 square feet of storage space!

Cargo Rack Alpha

When it comes to sport machines, storage space is hard to come by. It’s especially important to have all the gear you need on high-stakes rides. Think rock crawling, dune racing, and more. Anything where you push your machine to the max.

The Cargo Rack Alpha is the ideal UTV storage solution. It’s made to preserve your existing bed space by sitting up above the cargo area. Store a spare tire, cooler, tools, camping gear, or other cargo on the sturdy cargo shelf.

It uses durable gas struts that won’t jiggle or bounce. With its 75-pound load capacity and multiple tie down locations, this cargo rack can truly transform your machine.

This cooler bag won’t take up too much space on your ATV, and the built-in straps make it easier to carry to your final destination than a cooler. It’s great for late nights on the sand or day-long fishing trips.

It holds up to 24 cans with ice and the rugged construction is tear resistant, making it the perfect offroad storage upgrade.

This trash bag is reusable and fits more than you think, from cans to lunch leftovers. It’s easily washable thanks to the vinyl mesh construction. And it comes with two ball bungees, making it easy to attach to your machine.

Food and Drinks

Your machine runs on fuel and you run on beef jerky. So it’s important to have plenty of both on hand when you’re riding! Whether you’re packing a few snack or multi-course off-road meals, we recommend keeping your food and drinks in a cargo box. They’ll stay clean and dry while your machine is tearin’ it up.

Tools and Spare Parts

Nothing ruins a ride quite like a torn axle boot or leaky tire. Since you can’t know in advance what kind of problems you may run into on the trails, we recommend keeping some basic tools and spare parts in your machine at all times.

Keeping them in a cargo box will keep your tool kit from flying out when you hit unexpected bumps.

Safety and Emergency

You know what they say about pretty much anything—safety first! These are things you hope to never need, but you’ll be really glad you have them if you do. Whether you’re injured, lost, stranded, or all three (yikes), here are some must-haves that will get you home safely. And keeping them securely in your cargo box will make sure they stay in perfect working order.

  • First-Aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Zip ties and/or duct tape
  • Tow strap
  • Utility knife
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Fire starter
  • Trail map (in case your GPS unit fails)
  • Toilet paper (leaves can be brutal on your rear end—especially if you’re riding in the desert… lookin’ at you, cacti)

Important Items

Our last category isn’t super exciting, but it’s one of the most important. This is the stuff you don’t want to leave rolling around on the floor of your cab, because if it happens to fall out while riding, you’ll be S.O.L. Store these essentials in your cargo box to ensure they stay put while you’re off-roading.

  • Cell phone with charger
  • Wallet
  • Car keys
  • Important papers (vehicle registration, fishing/hunting license)
  • Anything else that can’t get lost or wet
