Can you believe GDP Portals are 10 years old?

That’s right, SuperATV launched GDP Portals back in 2015, and they’ve been going strong ever since. We started with 4” portals and one gear reduction option, and now offer up to 8” portals with up to a 70% gear reduction.

So we’re celebrating a decade of GDP Portals by giving some away.

Win a Set of GDP Portals!*

First things first: we’re giving away some GDP Portals! So make sure you get signed up.

But if you don’t know what you’ve been missing out on all these years, let’s do a recap.

The Last Decade of GDP Portals

June 2015—4” GDP Portals released with cast aluminum housings and 30% gear reductions.

2016—6” GDP Portals with a 45% gear reduction launch.

2017—Gen 2 GDP Portals launch with bigger output shafts, updated rotor plates, and thicker housings.

2018—8” GDP Portals launch in September, offering the biggest side-by-side portals ever.

2019—Gen 3 Portals launch, introducing options for billet aluminum housings, 9310 gears, and more gear reduction sizes for every GDP Portal.

2021—Dual idler GDP Portals launch and introduce an option for a second idler gear to boost strength and reliability.

2022–Present—GDP Portals continue to be designed and built for a huge variety of makes and models, so anyone can get a set for their favorite machine.

That’s what we’ve been up to this past decade. Here’s what GDP Portals do for people every day.

Our 8” dual idler portals represent the pinnacle of portal technology. With the biggest lift in the industry, a 70% gear reduction, and dual idlers for extreme strength, this GDP Portal hub is built for the most extreme riders on the planet… and they’re damn popular. Photo by SuperATV

Why Should You Care About GDP Portals?

GDP Portals have been going strong for a decade and show no signs of slowing down.

But what gives them all that staying power? Why are they so common at ride parks? Why does it seem like everybody you meet has them or wants them?

Because they’re awesome, that’s why.

Here’s what makes them so good.

They Give You a Lift—But It’s Different

GDP Portals give you a lift—4”, 6”, or 8”. They work differently from a normal lift kit, though.

  • The lift is in the hub—With a lift in the hub instead of in the suspension, you get more ground clearance than a traditional lift of the same height. Think about it: normal lifts push your suspension down, so while your machine is higher, your A-arms, trailing arms, and radius rods all reach down just as low as your unlifted machine. That means the closer you are to the hub, the closer your clearance is to stock. With portals, that doesn’t happen—with 8” portals, the lowest point of your suspension is 8” higher than stock.
  • The lift doesn’t affect your suspension geometry—Since the lift is in the hub, your suspension geometry stays the same as stock. Your axles don’t have to run at some crazy (and hot) angle—it all articulates just like stock. That also means that most models can run a traditional lift kit on top of for really insane ground clearance. You can skip right past the bucket club and go straight to the barrel club.

They Give You a Gear Reduction (That You Really Need)

Inside every portal gear hub is a gear reduction. That gear reduction makes your life better for a few reasons.

  • The gear reduction makes big tires feel lighter—This is just physics. When you put bigger tires on your machine (which is what we assume you’ll be doing if you add a lift kit) you lose a lot of power. That’s because the tires act like a gear that gears up your machine. Ever try riding a bike up a hill in high gear? Yeah, it sucks. Big tires do that.

The gear reduction in each hub transforms the power coming into the hub into more torque going out of the hub where your tires are. That gives you more torque so those big tires can take you up hills, over rocks, through mud, and anywhere else easily.

That’s why we say you need GDP Portals to take back your torque.
  • This gear reduction protects your drivetrain—This one’s a little trickier. Usually gear reductions go in the transmission, so your prop shaft, differential, and axles come later in the power train. With portals, the gear reduction is at the very end of the entire drivetrain. That means turning your tires is easier for everything in the drivetrain that comes before the hub—the axles, differential, prop shaft, and transmission all work less, wear less, and last longer than without GDP Portals.

In case it was clear enough by now, GDP Portals give you room for massive tires (see image) and the torque you need to turn them (see image again) so you can dominate terrain you had no business riding through before (see image one last time). Photo by SuperATV

The Difference Is Night and Day

Here’s the bottom line: the first time you hit the gas on your lifted and loaded side-by-side, you’ll feel the difference. The power to the ground will blow your mind.

It’s impossible to understand how good it feels without trying it out yourself. But just think about it—you get massive tires and power to make them feel like stock. Your angle of attack on every obstacle will be better with bigger tires, so you can crawl over bigger rocks, bumps, mud holes, and logs without even feeling them.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. Here’s what other riders like you have to say about GDP Portals.

What Riders Like You Have to Say

Here’s a bunch of real customers talking about their experiences with GDP Portals across different machines, lift heights, and riding styles.

If that’s too much, start with this one from “RZR Joe” Stewart: “GDP Portals are the ultimate cheat code.”

Want to see what he means by that? Read on.

“Just got mine for my Turbo, and talk about a new machine with double the power!! Plus, the clearance is a plus😎💪👊”

—Jesse B, Polaris RZR XP Turbo 6” Portal Gear Lift

“2021 RZR Turbo. Went with the 8-inch portals with 45% gear reduction on 24 Kompressor Wheels with 40″ BKT tires. The portals install very easily 👌 And my rzr still fits perfectly on my 6.4 x14 trailer! With less stress on the drivetrain and added lift + gear reduction, the portals are the way to go!!! Best investment 👌 🙌 👍 😉”

—Britt V., Polaris RZR XP Turbo 8” Portal Gear Lift

“It took me about 7 hours to install along with the frame stiffener! After slapping 33s on 18s, she just couldn’t turn the tires under any kind of a load. Now there’s gobs of additional torque to spare. Next stop, upgraded ball joints! Thanks for always being there, SuperATV! Please grow your options list for the SOHC Ranger 1000!”

—Ryan R., Polaris Ranger XP 1000 6″ Portal Gear Lift

“The portals did everything expected and more! Gave me the clearance and torque needed to make it a whole new machine!”

—Ryan, Can-Am Maverick X3 6″ Portal Gear Lift

“Probably the best accessory you can put on a Kawasaki mule pro with 30” tires. Went with the 30% reduction and offset A-arms. Rides amazing and looks amazing.”

—Jared, Kawasaki Mule Pro 4″ Portal Gear Lift

“So worth the money!! Wish I would’ve done it when I first got my 2023 Can-Am Defender HD10 Max Limited. I’m running 30 x 10.00 R15 with High Lifter A Arms, and the machine sits perfect and exactly how I was hoping! My portals didn’t come with Gear Oil, so make sure you order some with the kit if you don’t already have it!”

—Tylor C., Can-Am Defender 4″ Portal Gear Lift

“The power difference is insane. That 30% gear reduction makes the Machine feel like it’s pushing 30s instead of 35s! Thanks Super ATV!”

—Eddie T., Honda Talon 1000R 4″ Portal Gear Lift

“This is about my 8th set, I won’t own a buggy without ’em now.”

—Ricky S., Can-Am Defender 8″ Portal Gear Lift

“Game changer. Great quality and fitment. Completely changes the capabilities of the rig. The XP Turbo is now on 35” Zillas and the portals, and it just crawls. Awesome upgrade. I did lose some steering agility, but that’s a small sacrifice for the performance. “
